^^^Those thoughts of DCA needing some AA's are nothing new around here ;). Yeah, like many things that needs to be completely revamped or enhance there, having a traditional AA ride would put the Disney back in DCA ;). Who knows though, Monsters Inc may have some surprises for a nice dark ride, but no, I'm not holding my breath on that one eiter.

Looking forward to it though :).

I think DCA is improving with each recent addition. We haven't been in two years and weren't real DCA fans when we visited, but we're looking forward to spending one day of our four in DCA when we return next week. Whereas before we only spent a half-day in DCA and headed right back to DL, I think this time we will likely spend a whole day in DCA. (The fact that my youngest is finally over the 42" GRR mark helps!) We are excited to do GRR and Soarin again, as well as see Aladdin and Tough to be a Bug. We're pumped to try out ToT and see Block Party Bash, and if Monsters Inc. was open we'd be excited about that too.

It still won't be as popular with us as DL, but it's making progress and I think in a few more years and some more changes we'll look forward to DCA on our trips. Probably never as much as we look forwrd to DL, but we'll look forward to it.

I think DCA continues to become more and more like DL, and I think that's what they need to do. And I agree that a great AA ride would probably help a lot--those are the attractions that are bringing us back to DL. All in all though, I feel optimistic that down the road DCA will be a good second gate. Too bad about the amount of space and the theming of the pier. IMO, the whole thing needs to go, and that's a major expense and theming problem. How do you create a great Indiana-type ride in an area that's themed a traditional amusement park? Or worse, how do you trash an entire land?

<< Or worse, how do you trash an entire land?>>

Lot's of folks here seem to have no problem with that.

I haven't read all 423 posts, sorry. ElderP and I have discusses this awhile I agree with what I think Darkbeer was saying awhile back. WDW had lots of "out-of-towners" who make it a point to spend a week and do as much as they can. The DLR has lots of those, but more locals trying to do it all in a day. I have lived in CA, various parts, most of my life. With the exception of reading your marvelous trip reports I have never known anyone to plan a multi-day trip to DLR. My family isn't really into Disney either. When we had a big Family Reunion there in Dec. 2001 it was the first time most of the 30+ had been there in 25 years. (Most live in the bay area of CA). We only planed one day, DL only. For awhile (10yrs?) DCA needs to be the discount park. Since it is "Disney-lite", i.e. much much smaller, it's admission price need to reflect that. When it had grown to Disney size, and parents are starting to bring back *their* kids to a park they enjoyed it'll be time to raise the price. IMHO, YMMV

I know a lot has happened in the last 2 and 1/2 years, especially with comments made by Disney Executives, and the major upgrade.

But today, we still have "Pay for Disneyland, get DCA for FREE!" tickets (extended for an extra month), and just ended another "2 days free" promotion, so some things haven't changed.

But the reason I am posting in this specific thread, is the following article I came across recently, from TIME Magazine in June of 1968, as it really relates to the first part of this long thread.

http://www.time.com/time/magaz...,00.html

>>The lessons provided by Disneyland were put to their first serious test in 1961, when a barren stretch of land midway between Dallas and Fort Worth was taken over by the Great Southwest Corp. and built into the site of Six Flags over Texas, an $18 million, 40-acre imitation Disneyland that even Disney employees concede is a "pretty good job." <<
