<<This attraction was also known as the Plaza Swan Boats. It opened May 20,1973. There were 15 boats that each held 30 passengers and it reportedly required two cast members to pilot them. There were two different loading docks that were used at various points during the boats' lifetime. One was located by the area that is now the outdoor terrace seating by the Plaza Restaurant. The other was located to the right of the castle toward Tomorrowland. Swan Boats required a D ticket and sailed around the moat of the central hub and circled around the Swiss Family Island Treehouse in Adventureland. The boats only operated during peak park periods and closed for good in August, 1983.>> |

<<There were twelve, 26-passenger boats in the fleet, including one which was used solely to clean the canals. They were powered by natural gas, and used a water jet propulsion system. Although originally suppose to run on an electronic guidance system, it never worked correctly, and the boats were steered manually. The boats were named after heroines from classic Disney films, such as "Tinker Bell, "Flora," "Fauna," and "Merryweather" from Sleeping Beauty. The ride required a "D-Ticket" up until 1980, when the ticket books were discontinued. The green-roofed dock on the water's edge between Cinderella Castle and Tomorrowland, still exists today, although the boats are long gone, having been sold by Disney after the ride's closure.>>
So who are you going to believe? 12 or 15? |

| wahooskipper Tue 12/12/2006 11:31a | The number I was familiar with was 12. Not too long after it opened they took one boat out of service and turned it into a maintenance boat.
