It was originally at Palace Gardens in Detroit, MI from 1917-1928, then was sent to Olympic Park in Maplewood, NJ from 1928-1965. Disney acquired it while in storage and restored it (minus 4 chariots) for when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.
