Done the I-5 for a many of years ~ most of the time ~
Bless to fly in this time.
Last drive was last August with 3 grandchildren. I am about 17 hours away. I do it in one day ~ too excited to stop.
Then Dec last year my grandson and I flew ~
This time solo on Alaska Airlines ~
Just AWESOME !!
In fact next summer ~ I will most likely be doing the I-5 drive with my 3 grandchildren again ~~~~ |

We usually drive the 5 too but were very pleased to have flown in on Alaska earlier this month for a DH and me ONLY trip. (I did a trip report on it, if you're interested.) I do prefer flying (even though I actually hate to fly) but we have NINE of us going this time and this is just so much cheaper (even with gas prices being what they are).
Besides, every child should be made to suffer through a long road trip with their folks. Its a rite of passage and its the American Way, dag nabbit. ;) |

WOW ! NINE ~ I agree every child should do the road trip at least once. Actually it can be lots fun and learning at least the first time. : 0 )
It's so cheap and a many times the only way I could have taken my 3 grandkids, or my 4 children a many years ago raising them on one income.
But now I am blessed to spluge more....and for the price to fly ~ my room ~ tickets ~ I could have drove the with my 3 grands and stayed the same amount of time.
So I don't knock the driving at all... I gear up and do what I got to do.
Next summer it will be back on the 5 with the grands. |

| chickendumpling Sun 8/21/2005 8:49p | LOL! The nine aren't all me! My family is taking one of best friends and her family. My daughter and one of her daughters are best friends too so it should be fun. She is not a disneygeek like me so I am pretty anxious but it'll all be good.
Just a few more hours and then I can say SIX DAYS! |
