It seems there was a monastery in Nepal where the specialty of the monks was creating beautifully handcrafted animals of lead, covered in zinc and decorated with paint, glitter and rhinestones. All of the monks had taken a vow of silence, and only those true to their vows were allowed to work with the more exotic and intricate of the creations. Indeed, even uttering one word would send an otherwise talented monk straight back to coating simple farm animals.
It may seem unfair, but then as anyone who lived through WWII knows...

You can see doodles of Oswald in many of Hitler's journals from the pre-WWII era.
The reason Disney wanted Oswald the Rabbit back is because they're trying to distance themselves from Eisner [you know, he's Jewish], and give the company a more balanced feel.
