Mary Poppins will open for previews at the New Amsterdam theater on October 14. The NYC premiere will be November 16.

Ticket sales commence June 11. Group tickets are already available.

No word on when the Lion King will transfer out of the New Amsterdam.

Lee...broadway.com has Lion King tix for sale through 6/4 and then from 6/13. I assume those are the closing at the New Amsterdam and opening at the Minskoff dates, respectively.

Too bad they changed the poster, the english one was so beautiful in Bert drawings style.
Leemac, do you know if they will delete the Temper Temper song for the US audience?
I find stupid to alterate the show to accomodote the american taste!

Thanks for the info Tony. I've no idea why they haven't started publicising it as the Lion King's last season at the New Amsterdam.

That does sound like a long time through from mid-June to mid-October to fit out the New Amsterdam for Mary Poppins. Unless they are going to refresh the theater in general.

KiNOO they have changed all of the UK posters and merchandise to the new logo too (we saw it again this past week).

I haven't heard anything about the potential changes. I can leave with some changes (although a lot of the songs are very British in their language) but I'm just praying they get the first British cast for the first Broadway run. Gavin Lee is still playing Bert but to get Laura Michelle Kelly and the others back would be fantastic. I just don't want to see a lot of American cast members in the production. I guess most if not all the kids will be American though.

The good thing is that both Cameron and Tom Schumacher were very keen to stick to the original Travers stories in the first place so I'm optomistic that that will carry through to the US production. I really hope so. I think US theater-goers would get a huge kick out of the very British-ness of the whole thing.

"I'm just praying they get the first British cast for the first Broadway run."

That will depend on Actor's Equity, and if history is any indication, there's no way the British cast will be coming over. MAYBE one or two? Equity is a bear to deal with.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Melissa Errico playing Mary Poppins. She's due for an opportunity like that.

I agree, the original was so much more appealing. This one looks like the cover to a Disneyland Storybook Album.
