In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.

It's a poem, 20th Century, American. Subject of a famous obscenity trial.

Believe it or not, I've never seen "Apocalypse Now," so I don't know if it's quoted there, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if it were, as it would fit the time period.

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked..."

Patti Smith set it to music. They Might Be Giants, Bush, the Fugs, Christopher Buckley, John Waters, "The Simpsons," and "Hey Arnold!" have all quoted it (according to Wikipedia).
