| 999HAUNTS Wed 4/26/2006 9:07a | I went to pick up my pictures last night from my birthday party, and as I started to look through them I began crying. Not crying, sobbing. Right in the middle of COSTCO. What a scene.
Why didn't anyone in my family have the decency to tell me how much weight I had gained?? I still see myself as a size 12-14, not as the size 20-22 I have become. I mean I knew I had gained some weight, but absolutely had no idea how horrible I looked. Tiggerbell tried to console me, but to no avail.
Then I decided - heck, we're at COSTCO. (This is a place to shop in bulk for those of you who don't know) What better place is there to stock up on healthy, weight-conciencious (sp?) food? Crying wasn't going to help.
We bought the better choices for our food consumption, went home, absolutely threw out EVERYTHING that had high amounts of sugar or fat. (Bye bye, Twix bars!!)
I've tried to diet before, but have failed. I think I've never really been motivated. But this time I feel it in my bones. I WANT to lose the weight. I want to be happy with myself once again.
I have cleared it with the HR manager here so I can waive my 2 breaks, but instead walk up and down the warehouse stairs twice every hour on the hour.
I'm pumped! I'm going to do it this time! Wish me luck! |

One problem with your post though... I truly doubt you looked horrible. Perhaps not the way you wanted to look, but not horrible.

Best of luck to you!!! YOU CAN DO IT! |

| smeeeko Wed 4/26/2006 9:32a | I haven't been a size 12 since I was in my early 20s and that was after on my way up to size 20something in my late 20s... I found that making those changes have a helped a lot. Walking does too!
I am wishing you the very best and wanted to add a little reminder that when you skip those breaks to walk don't let the eating suffer! Costco *can* be a great place for healthy stuff too.. fruit cups, granola bars, morningstar farm products, Kashi cereal and snacks.. fatfree yogurt lots of water.. we get the sport tops and the crystal light thingys.. Some Costco's have Amys organic spinach lasagne and other stuff..
Any little changes that you make in your food lifestyle can & will make a difference.. just find the things you like to do and then it will make it a little easier. =) The important thing is how YOU feel not how much you weigh, ok??
You CAN do it! =) |

I myself have been in that situation with my wedding pictures, so I feel for you. |

| amazedncal2 Wed 4/26/2006 10:07a | I'm riding that diet train with you. My kick in the gut was a picture from Christmas. YIKES! Who was that person in the picture. I'm going slow and steady this time.
I find that if I have a nice big apple, cut into slices late in the afternoon with or without some string cheese I'm not feeling starved by dinner. I eat pea pods, carrots and bell peppers as I cook.
A lowfat chocolatechip granola bar (cut into pieces), a skinnycow ice cream bar or microwave popcorn is a must for me in the evening. I'm used to a TV snack and it's best if I don't feel deprived.
Just thought I'd throw out some ideas that work for me, you've probably used these all before on diets and you are thinking "duh?" but I know I need reminders everytime I restart :) I do wish you success :)

| nevadarebel Wed 4/26/2006 10:12a | wishing you the best of luck. I had a similar episode last fall and decided while I was at the store looking for new pants because I had outgrown mine, that I was not going to buy a bigger size. The next day, my husband and I joined weightwatchers and as of today, I have lost 36lbs. and hubby is down 43. The first couple of weeks were easy for us because we were enthusiastic about it but then that wore off and became a struggle. Now that I am now down 3 pant sizes, it is worth it. I still would like to lose about 25 more but I am comfortable where I am and don't follow it as closely as I once did. I found that by writing down everything that I put in my mouth was a huge thing for me. Taking that last bite of mashed potatoes instead of throwing it away or taking a french fry or 2 of from the kids or what was left in the bag. Water was also a key for me. I gave up (weaned myself) soda and drank water. I felt better and the weight came off quick at first because of the water weight but seeing that loss was a big inspiration. I also didn't deprive myself. I found that dryers has ice cream bars that have chocolate and nuts on the outside and vanilla or rocky road on the inside that are great for that sweet fix but are 1/2 the fat. Because weightwatchers is a point system, I always save points for ice cream at the end of the day. The fat free pudding is also a great thing for a sweet fix too. Just remember that you have lots of support here and that you are not alone on this journey! |
