| RAM1984 Sun 5/21/2006 12:32p | This thread has really kept me going. Most of the cravings have passed and it is easier to eat "right". Last night my mom invited us over to see my uncle who is visiting from Idaho. She offered to take us out to dinner and I said, "just let me bring something." I made a great chicken soup and did not take a dessert. She thanked me after as she is diabetic and really shouldn't eat in resturants too often or eat rich desserts (the only kind my family seems capable of having.) We were all happy with the decision. Thanx to everyone here. |

| LuLu Sun 5/21/2006 8:44p | Good idea RAM! Eating out is tough on eating "right." I try to always order a main dish salad. I usually regret it if I don't, as I'm used to eating right and can feel the difference when I don't. (For me it's about being healthy; I don't need to lose weight.) I'm usually pleased with the salad, as I get something more interesting than what I'd make at home.
Re snacks, I suggest bringing raw veggies, fresh fruit or nuts. I try to avoid anything sweet, as much as possible. I'll have a dessert once a week or two, though. I don't believe in total deprivation! |

| smedley Mon 5/22/2006 2:16a | I second Lulu on the raw veggies for snacks. I tend to bring a box of carrot sticks and a tub of cherry tomatoes (are they still called cherry tomatoes over there? You know the really small ones) and snack on those, I also eat a reasonable amount of fruit, apples and satsumas for the most part, depending on season. For lunch, I usually make a big batch of soup, or some kind of vegetable stew with a tomato base, at the beginning of the week/the weekend and freeze it in individual portions, I'm quite lucky in that we have a microwave and fridge at work, so I take an individual portion each day and microwave it there... Had watercress, spinach and potato soup last week... Mmmmm.... |
