| cmpaley Fri 9/15/2006 7:49p | A picture taken at the LP meet at Disneyland last July 17th opened my eyes to how I really look....Jabba the Hutt. In early August, I found out that there is a gym in the basement of the building I live in, so I got access to it and have been exercising nearly every day. I have been doing morning fasted cardio on a recumbent cycle. I started at 20 minutes and am now up to 30 minutes. Twice a week, I have been doing a full-body lifting regimen (dumbell bench presses, dumbell lateral side raises, bent-over dumbell rows, dumbell extensions behind the head, dumbell curls, leg extensions, standing calf raises, leg curls and crunches). I've work up to the point where the dumbells provided downstairs are no longer enough, so I took the BIG step of joining Gold's Gym in Downtown LA. My first meeting with the personal trainer is this Sunday afternoon.
I've been doing low-carb to control my diabetes but have started adding back low-glycemic carbs to see how I react to them. My diet is about 2300 calories a day. |

Time to hobble back on. |

| DlandJB Sat 9/16/2006 12:04a | Good to hear about your progress, Cmpaley. 2300 calories would be a feast right now for me -- Jenny C. has me on 1200 -- but I can have all the non starchy veggies I want (although I'll skip the spinach for the next few weeks!) Had a slight set back last week due to the wonderful Inn we stayed in last Friday. However, made some good changes and upped the exercise this week, so looking good. I won't get weighed until Wednesday.

| peeaanuut Sat 9/16/2006 1:54a | Ram: I have been scimming this thread and maybe this has been mentioned. I read something that you are off the caffeine? But let me mention this. A cup of black coffee (small cup) after a meal, especially dinner, can really help with digestion. It stimulates your body to begin breaking down calories. It is very helpfull. THe downside is that if you tend to eat late, it might keep you up a bit. Also, for breakfast a small cup of black coffee goes a long way. It will begin the digestive process in the morning, like a kick start and it has a slight tendancy to fill you up.
Also, 3 words for you. Water, water, water.
Otherwise, glad to see things are still going well. |

| DlandJB Thu 9/21/2006 12:16p | Checking in with happy news. Weighed in at Jenny Craig last night - at the one month mark and I have lost 13.5 lbs! Very happy about it. It doesn't really show yet (except my clothes fit better and I feel better). The next 10-15 will really start to show that its working.
Big Smile!

| RAM1984 Thu 9/21/2006 6:45p | Congratulations cmpaley and DlandJB. It is so good to hear success stories. I know that is true about coffee peeaanuut. But I suffer severe insomnia and even a small cup in the afternoon will keep me up. I am very sensitive to the stuff. This week I have done really well. And of course I feel so much better. It is so frustrating to know what works but slip into old habits so easily. As noted by the founder of the thread. "Aren't we a funny bunch?!?" We are indeed. |

| cmpaley Fri 9/22/2006 8:41p | My right foot has been really bothering me lately. It happened a whlle back and the doctor said it was probably arhtritis. ARTHRITIS...at 35! Argh! Yet another weight-related problem. It had gone away but it came back. :( I've been giving it a rest for the past two days. The doctor gave me nabumetone (an NSAID like naproxen or ibuprofen). There are all kinds of scary warnings on the back. I hope it doesn't make me retain water...expecially since I drink about a gallon a day!
Tomorrow, back to the gym with morning cardio and an afternoon lifting session. I would have gone for my lifting session tonight but the gym closes early, so... :(
I also met my personal trainer. He seems pretty good. I will be having my first workout session with him in the near future. It was supposed to be Thursday but he called and cancelled. When I go tomorrow, I'll set up my new appointment.
I'm down a total of 24 lbs. now and my glucose is slowly coming down. It jumps around but the trend (which is more important) is still downward...just slowed down, which is fine.
Good work JB and RAM! |
