We are in the process of making plans for our next trip in October 2007 and wanted to know if any one has ever stayed at the Yacht Club? What type of room did you have and the view? What was your stay like? Thanks for your time!!

We stayed at the Yacht Club one time about four years ago. Although it was a very nice hotel we did not enjoy it much and will probably not return.

When we checked in we were given a free upgrade to the concierge floor. I imagine that it was because we were staying there with DVC points and the Disney Resorts seem to give DVC'ers the best room they have available at check-in.

The room itself was beautiful. We had a HUGE balcony (shared with one other room) beneath one of the turrets. So, with all of this good stuff why didn't we like the hotel?

It didn't seem very 'Disney' to us but more like a generic 'fancy hotel'. I think part of this was due to a HUGE computer convention being held at the time. It seemed that the Swan, Dolphin and Yacht Club all had a huge number of convention attendees staying there.

It just doesn't feel like Disney to me when you've got a bunch of guys wandering around all carrying the same notebook and plastic bag and with a "Hello My Name Is" sticker on the front of their shirt.

I also thought that some of the people on the concierge level were WAY too impressed with themselves. They seemed to feel that they really had the cat by the tail since they were not only at a Disney Deluxe, but they were CONCIERGE too. Well la-di-da.

What was rather amusing is that some of these same people would hoard the food from the Concierge lounge; at times going as far as sticking things in the pockets of their fancy white Yacht Club robes. I guess it was their "Inner Wal-Mart" coming out. ;-)

What is a HUGE attraction for many is the Yacht Club pool... Storm-along Bay. Storm-along Bay is really more like a mini water park than a hotel pool. It wasn't a benefit for us because we were there during January and it wasn't really swimming weather.
My wife and I also rarely use the pools at the WDW hotels. I think we've gone swimming about 5 times in 15 trips. We figure why use up valuable WDW time doing something we could do in Minnesota?

So, that gives you an idea of our stay at the Yacht Club. Several things came together to make it a less than ideal stay for us. Many people adore the place though, so I wouldn't let what I've said here keep you from going. If you think you would enjoy it... go for it.

Personally, I think the Boardwalk has a lot more personality than either the Yacht Club or Beach Club. That would be my favorite Epcot resort even if I wasn't in DVC.

Thanks RT for your honesty. I truly appreciate it. There is a lot to think about considering the money that will be spent. We have always stayed at the GF and I thought we would try some place different next time. I thought the location of the Yacht Club was excellent so that was one of my main reasons for wanting to stay there. My son couldn't care less just as long as there is a pool and it looks like a really cool one at that.

"Disney allows the general public to book DVC units at very high rates through its regular resort reservations system, when available. Renting points is a much better deal. For instance, a five-night stay (Sunday through Thursday) in a Villas at Wilderness Lodge studio in May 2005 "costs" the DVC member 65 points. At the typical rate of $10-$12 a point, you could rent his points for $650- $780 and enjoy a stay that would cost over $1800 (including tax) if booked directly through Disney at rack rates. (For comparison, a standard room at Wilderness Lodge -- which would not include the mini-fridge and microwave you get with a studio -- would cost $1332 at rack rates for the same time period.)"

Very interesting!

I give this opinion a resounding SECOND! I could not agree more with this stgatement. I OWN at the BEACH CLUB which is pretty much the other side of the same resort as the Yacht CLub and I will never stay there again. I use my points at either Boarwalk or Old Key West.

If you stay at the GF, and the price isn't a big deal, then the Yacht may be what you want. No doubt it IS the best pool in WDW, and it is VERY nice. But I would most certainly rent points. Otherwise it is very overpriced IMHO. But being over priced can sometimes be an advantage. It sort of dictates who your neighbors will be during your stay. This is the reason I don't stay at ALL Star resorts anymore. My son once got physcially attacked by some Redneck wife beater kid, and when I stepped in, expecting the other kid's father (who was standing right there) to back me up, he began cussing me out. I could only think how proud of himself he must be, and how HIS son will certinaly be following in his footsteps, dropping out of college at 16, smoking, drinking, and watching Nascar while his common law wife works three jobs to buy him beer. I am not saying everyone who stays there is like this, but I AM saying that guy, and people like him can't be found at the Yacht Club...if you take my meaning.
