DVC thanks for taking the time. I was looking at the Boardwalk after RT's post as well. We always make a family decision as to where we want to stay so that is definitely on our list as well. Friends of ours always stay at the Boardwalk and they love it. Like I said before, just as long as there is a pool my son is happy. I think the location of any of the resorts over there is great.

That's so ironic that you mention the redneck because my ex-brother in law was exactly like that same way. Thank goodness my sister woke up and he's an ex now. I guess we can't help who our family members fall in love with. Wow, just the thought of having your child being attacked is one thing but to be cussed out also puts the icing on the cake. One of these days, that other kid is going to run across the wrong person. I do understand what you mean about your surroundings and you are right, we will never see those type of people at the Yacht Club or GF. I don't mean to sound like a snooty person, but that is one of the reason why we like staying at the GF.

I can always find great advise here on LP, Thanks everyone.

Coach, I don't know if you've booked yet, but here's my 2 cents (which is different than most on the boards):

We love the Yacht Club and we've stayed at almost all the other properties. We have stayed Garden view, water view and concierge. I find the hotel to be convenient to both the parks and the other hotels (including the Boardwalk). It's quiet, the rooms are big, and the pool is awesome - my kids loved the pool from ages 5 through adult. It's their favorite hotel, too. My then 7 year old asked if we could live there, lol. The staff there has been knowledgable, and absolutely awesome about the many service puppies/dogs who have travelled with us and our needs, unlike most of the other properties' staff.

And, about not "Disney" enough - why does every hotel have to be a side show? Sometimes that's exactly what we want, but sometimes we like the feeling of the YC. I like the feeling of being able to breathe and relax after hitting the parks. btw, I think that the GF is not one of the "side show" locations, either. In addition to the luxury, it benefits by being near MK the same was that the YC benefits by being near Epcot and MGM (I can't get used to the other name, lol).

One year we took a long weekend and mostly just hung around the pool during the day and went to the parks at night.

And, don't get me wrong, I love Jiko and the lobby and A rock, but I think that hotel part of AKL is vastly overrated. Last time we stayed at YC (not our choice, but we were pretty much booted out of AKL because of the dog) and my son and SIL stayed at the AKL. My son was not impressed with the room - he thought it small and dark. And he wasn't impressed with the animals he saw from the balcony - also tiny. But then again, we're zoo fanatics and have been on some awesome insider-type tours of zoos, both near and far.

As you can see, everyone here has many many differing opinions.

Er, I know you were talking about Boarwalk. Sorry, I just got on an "other" hotel tangent.

So you then took your dog to the YC? Dogs are not allowed in any Disney hotel. Sorry, but rules are rules.

OK... my bad. I didn't read your post closely enough to notice SERVICE PUPPIES/DOGS. Which leads me to another question. Why would having a service dog result in you having to leave the AKL? Service dogs are supposed to be allowed anywhere on WDW property?

I am guessing that any dog, service or no, would potentially be a problem near the animals?

Per Security at AKL there are certain animal deseases that can be transferred from domestic animals to wild animals and that is why they do not allow service animals at AKL. In fact, we picked up our cat from the AK boarding facility then drove to AKL to pick up my parents and they wouldn't let us even drive onto the property in case she should escape.

I find this especially interesting since I once was on an elevator at DAKL with a person who had a small dog with her.

beamerdog - Thank you for your imput. We have not booked yet but will be soon for our 2007 trip. Out of all the rooms that you have stayed in, which one would you recommend? We are looking to book the concierge so that may help a little. I love a good view from the room. We were looking into The Admiral Suite which looked really nice but it might be a bit big for the 3 of us.

It's funny how you said your son wanted to live at the YC as my son who was 7 in 2003 said the same thing. I don't mind people having dogs/puppies in a hotel as I love animals.

It looks very favorable that we will be staying at the YC as we do like the hotel itself, the POOL :) and the convenience of being near MGM and Epcot. The YC seemed very relaxed and the CM's that we spoke to were very knowledgable. I have never been to the AKL so I can't make a comment on that hotel.
