^was trying to compare prices and such on the Nintendo DS and came across info on the Wii and it sounds neat! We have the PS2 right now as well the GBA.. I like that the Wii Will be able to play both the GameCube and Nintendo DS stuff.. (we don't have a GameCube but I'm still wishing I could play some of my GBA games on the tv just the same.. It looks like on the Wii you can connect your GBA to the Wii and play it that way!) Definitely a plus! =)

<<<Nintendo is the Disney of the videogame world, in my opinion.>>>

Yes I agree, they are the Coca Cola of the softdrink industry, and eventhough there are more people drinking bottled water than soft drinks right now...that doesn't even matter cause there are more people drinking soft drinks now than there were ten years ago.

<--- my god somebody stop me! I must have had a brain fart.

We have well pretty much everything except a 360. I am probably going with the Wii too, as it will offer games for ALL of my kids, not just games for my 11 year old that he shouldn't be playing anyway!

bAmboo1, where do you find a top-loading NES? And how do you get NES and Super NES games on your computer?

Not that I have much free time at all, but the prospect still sounds fun, lol.

<---has beloved NES cartridges, but no way to play them since his old system went kaput :-( (and I used to have Super, but not in a long while---heck, I was happy with just Super Mario World on that one)

<<bAmboo1, where do you find a top-loading NES? And how do you get NES and Super NES games on your computer? <<

I dunno about top-loading NESs, but you might try checking at comic stores or at places like GameStop. The comic store I go to sells used video games & consoles, and they usually have a NES or two in stock. You could also check at used video game dealers, if you have any out there.

I've downloaded some NES & SNES games to my computers. Google for ROMs, and tons of websites will appear. Technically, they say that unless you own the game physically, then you have to delete the ROM file within 24 hours, but I've never had a problem.

There are programs you can download that will play these ROMs. I have one for NES ROMs and one for SNES. I know one of the two is called Nester, but I can't remember the name of the other. I'll open them up once in a while and play those great old games, like Super Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, the old FF games, Zelda, etc. :-)

>>bAmboo1, where do you find a top-loading NES? And how do you get NES and Super NES games on your computer?<<

The top loading NES was a second version of the NES released by Nintendo in 1993. It was smaller than the original, and the cartridges loaded in the top, like on the SNES. They are supposed to work much better and last must longer than the old versions. I bought mine when the SNES was just coming out and was all the rage. I saw a huge pile of them at Toys R Us for $20 each. Nobody wanted one because the SNES was new. Even though my old NES still worked I was smart enought to buy one for the future. Now I wish I had bought the whole pile. They do work great but are very hard to find. I've never seen another one in real life, and they often go for a lot on eBay. If you ever try and buy one, beware: there are now fake toploading NES's that people try and sell on eBay. Here is the first website I found about it on google:

As far as NES and SNES games on the computer, jasmine7 is right. There are programs called emulators that can play video games on your computer. All you do is download an emulator (Nnester for NES is a good one, ZSNES for SNES). Then, download the "roms" (aka the games) and you are able to play them on your computer. They play exactly like the original games because the emulators are "reading" the games like a system would. They a lot of fun but can be confusing at first if you aren't great at computers. I have a flash card that lets me play all the NES games on my gameboy advance. I love that thing so much.

cool.
But you guys, the NES is old but not THAT old.

Let me take you ALL the way down memory lane.

Warning: This is REALLY chika chika bop bop OLD SCHOOL!

My son entered a drawing two weeks ago at a Trade N Play place where you had to be present to win. We went and of course he did NOT win. The prize was one of the NEW Atari 2600 "flash back" clones that comes with 25 games preloaded. I see these at Target and am thinking about buying one.

They are pretty cheap and I miss the 2600 from when I was younger.

Dude, I never even heard of this "top-loading NES"...wow...I sure wish I'd known about 'em at the time, *sigh*...

I may try to search for one someday. I dunno how good downloaded ones would be, and I'd rather be comfortable on my couch playin' anyway. Thanks for the details though.
