Is it worth the trip? Can anyone compare with the west coast AMS/Disney Outlets? We are staying in the same general vicinity.

are you asking about the BELZ outlets & the one by Mary Queen of the Universe??

The Belz Outlets are great and definitely worth the trip.. =) It's got some great Disney stuff there.. but I'm not sure about the one you are referring... =(

Only, the malls are no longer "Belz" They are called Prime Outlets now.

But yes, they are worth the trip. I think they carry more adult items, collectibles, pins and such than the west coast counterparts.

I went to the former Belz Mall store, and found not much of interest, The store was about 1/4 the square footage of the Character Wearhouse up at Orangethorpe straight up Harbor from DL. There is supposed to be a Character wearhouse closer than the Belz complex but I've never been to it, one drawback of the magic express, you only go where Disney wants you to go.

Disney's Character Premiere is in the Orlando Premium Outlets, just off 535, about a mile from the DD entry to WDW.

A lot closer than Belz.

There is an outlet at LBV Factory Outlets, but isn't owned and operated by Disney and basically sells crap.

Closest to the parks is Orlando Premium Outlets. The shop there -- Disney's Character Premiere -- is owned by Disney. Some of the merch is full price, but other items are discounted. In the same outlet mall (right across from the Disney outlet store) is a Universal outlet store. To get to the Premium Outlets, head out Epcot Center drive to I-4 north. Stay in the right hand lane and exit at FL-535 (S Apopka Vineland Rd/Kissimmee-Vineland Rd); When you exit, DO NOT TURN. Instead, head straight across FL-535 onto Vineland Ave. Continue on Vineland Ave past some timeshares and Mary Queen of the Universe shrine. The outlet mall will be on your right. Walk through the food court to reach the Disney outlet store.

Almost as close are the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores. The shop there is "Character Outlet". It is not owned by Disney. To get to the Lake Buena Vista Outlets, take Epcot Center Dr. off property. After you pass I-4, turn right onto FL-535 (S Apopka Vineland Rd/Kissimmee-Vineland Rd). The mall entrance will be on your left just after you pass underneath the Central Florida Greenway (which will be the first overpass you encounter).

The Prime (formerly Belz) Outlets are further away and have two Disney outlets -- Disney's Character Premiere in Mall 1 and Disney's Character Warehouse in Mall 2. Both shops are owned by Disney. To get to the Prime Outlets, take I-4 north and exit at Sand Lake Rd west. After you pass the I-Drive intersection, get into the left lane and take the S. Kirkman Rd exit. While on the exit ramp, stay to your right to head north on S Kirkman Rd. Once on S. Kirkman Rd, get to the right lane and turn right onto I-Drive. Follow I-Drive all the way to the end. Both Malls will be on the right.

Personally, I've been to all three of the Disney owned stores and can testify that they pretty much have the same merchandise. If your time is limited, stick with the Orlando Premium Outlets. I've never been to the "Character Warehouse" at the Factory Stores, so I can not comment on them.

Mary Waring's MouseSavers has this blurb:

<< Character Corner at Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores is a bit shabby and has a much smaller selection of merchandise than the Character Premiere store. You can find some worthwhile deals here, but I have not seen much at this Character Corner that wasn't also at the Character Premiere store, usually at an identical price. This store also has some non-Disney merchandise and occasionally lower-end Disney merchandise that is not "resort exclusive." >>

Now, if you're looking for more unique discounted souvineers, consider visiting MouseSurplus. They have a lot of items from the hotels, parks, etc. To get to MouseSurplus, take I-4 north to the Bee Line Expressway. When on the Bee Line, exit at John Young Parkway south. Immediatly after exiting onto southbound John Young, get into the left lane, and turn left at the first light onto Taft Vineland Rd. When you reach the Orange Rd. intersection, Taft Vineland Rd. becomes S. Tradeport Dr.

Thanks so much for the detailed information from all.

We always try to hit the Character Premier Store at the Orlando Premium Outlet.

We've done really well there. If you're looking for some inexpensive things to take back for teacher gifts, etc. that is the place to go.
