Reuters & Hollywood Reporter say that Disney's "Jungle Cruise" ride is being developed as a movie to be scripted by SMALLVILLE overlords Al Gough and Miles Millar (whose MUMMY 3 script now appears to be moving forward, possibly under the direction of ROCKETEER & JURASSIC PARK 3 helmer Joe Johnston).

Yup. I heard about this a while back, but haven't heard of many updates since then. It's hard to imagine what a movie of JC would be like..but hey, people said that when POTC was in the works.

Should be interesting developments on the horizon ;)

I think they announced their intentions to do this quite a ways back, but the hiring of writers would seem to indicate the movie has moved from possibility to real project.

The movie won't have much in common with the ride, other than the setting I assume (I can't see corny Jungle Cruise skipper jokes making the film). So, the potential to be a good movie really has nothing to do with the ride per se, just like POTC which, aside from a few references, stood on its own as a piece of entertainment.

I heard that they were going to do this at the same time that I heard about CB, POTC, and HM. Since then I heard a rumor about Space Mountain, but the other four were announced together. I think that was the last I heard of it, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what they can do with the jungle theme. I think just about anything is possible, and (if there was a way to do this to make it still make sense) have the DVD randomly pick which corny jokes go into each scene, so it is always a little different like the ride. I doubt they could do this in the theaters, but they could send out slightly different copies to each theater. I know it will never happen, but it would be really really neat.

The movies will star Eddie Murphy as a wise cracking skipper of a jungle river boat.

OK, I'm kidding. But can't you just picture it? Isn't it a natural fit? Isn't it a sure box office bomb?

Maybe, maybe not. But for reasons I can't really explain I want this one to fail.

Didn't somebody try that with the movie "Clue"?
