I am leaving for WDW in a little over a month and have to make a decision on this over the weekend. I have my hotel and ticket plan all set up, I'm just trying to decide if I should get the meal plan or not. The plan is a bit pricey and must be purchased for all 5 nights I am staying. I have a child that is just over the age limit for the children's plan but my wife and I can not see paying all this extra money for him when he always eats off the children's menu, and generally not that much of it. We do enjoy sitting down to eat at the nice table restaurants in the parks so we know we'll make use of it, plus now I am hearing not all menu items are good with it? Is this true? I just don't know if the cost will actually be saving us money in the end. If you are familar with this plan, and have used it before, please post some advice, I'd really appreciate it.

I haven't checked out all the restaurants available on the plan. But it looks like its well worth getting. Apparently you can also combine two sit down meals for a dinner show.

I would suggest checking out Allearsnet.com. Deb has menus, prices, etc. for all the restaurants at the resorts and parks. Do you have some restaurants in mind that you would like to try? If so, check out their menu for price and go from there. The dining plan is $37.99 per day. You'll surely spend more than that for a nice dinner in the evening.

I found when I don't use the dining plan I nickel and dime everything and end up with too many McDonalds quality meals. So for me, not having to think about how much the meal is costing is worth it. I also tried new restaraunts and ordering different things than I normally would.

I think the dining plan is terrific when it is offered free (like it was for August and September) ... I think I got about $700-800 worth of food this week alone.

BUT when you have to pay $38 per person per day and then on top of rack rate ... well, if you're staying at a value or moderate resort during the most inexpensive times of year, maybe you can argue it is worth it. But I never pay rack rate and I'd rather save $75 a night on my room and take my chances with my DDE card than pay rack PLUS $38 a person for a whole lot more food than I usually would consume.

I gained four pounds this week. That should tell you how much I got out of the dining program.

But I still don't see its value when you have to pay for it.

We went in August when the plan was free. We stayed a week and it came to about $1000. So if we bought the plan, we would be ahead. This was the first time we ever used a dining plan. For us it works and I would buy the plan when we go again. But,I agree with Spirit of 74. You need to really look at it it to see if it will work for you.

I've read that you get a lot of food. So if you like to eat and sit down and relax it is great. If you like to eat on the go and don't normally eat large meals this may not work for you.

If you do use the plan make you ADRs now you may miss out on some of the restuarants that you want.
