How much was it per night, how long did you stay, what did you do there, and was it worth it? |

I have stayed in a lot of expensive rooms traveling with family. I used to go to WDW for the Disneyana Conventions with my Mom and Dad, and we stayed at the Contemporary since that is where the conventions were held. We have also stayed at the Yacht Club and Grand Floridian.
For DL's 50th, my mom treated me, my older sister and her two kids to the Grand Californian; the rooms were about $350/night for four nights surrounding the actual anniversary date.
I think the most expensive room was on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. We were attending a relative's wedding on the ship and had reserved a cabin, but the first night was marred by REALLY obnoxious people in the next cabin and LOUD people outside on the dock at night. There was only one other cabin available on the ship: the King George Suite, which was about $550/night. It was nice, but run down; certainly not worth the money. But it was neat thinking that we were in a cabin that many a VIP must have stayed in.
The cheapest room I have stayed in was in Tokyo, at a "backpacker's" hotel. The rooms were about the size a large walk-in closet, and cost roughly $23/night. |

was it worth it ? It was spectacular location wise and Vienna is a brutally expensive city anyway...so it is all relative. Certainly blows a travel budget quickly though. |

Personal money - $350 for a park view Grand Californian Room at Disneyland or $400 for a room at the Astoria for my wife's birthday (though it did include Tickets to the Phantom of the Opera, plus a bottle of champagne and roses as a romance package deal). |

Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! |

| Goofyernmost Thu 5/31/2007 4:30a | When my family was young I used to splurge and spend upwards of $37.00 per night at the Econo Lodge just outside of WDW.
Ah, good times.
I will tell you this though...that $37.00 per night with my family was a lot more memorable then any amount of money spent on a room by myself. To me these types of accommodations are just a base camp and not a destination. I put very little value on the "rooms" so I don't think I have ever spent more than $200.00 per night for a room. It was in Key West and that was only because I hadn't planned ahead and was at their mercy. |

| DVC_dad Thu 5/31/2007 6:37a | I recently booked a vacation using DVC points at the Paradise Peir Hotel, at DL. I had to convert my DVC points to reservations points/(cash) to do so. Once you convert these DVC points they become "like cash" and cannot be put back into your DVC points. <----nevermind if you don't understand, read on. Anyway, my DW decided that she didn't want to fly the two of us and our 6 kids to DL so we decided to goto WDW (we can drive only 7 hours there) instead. I called to change the reservation, uh oh...my points have to be used (think of it as cash) at a hotel, not a DVC resort. So here is the point.
5 nights at the Paradise Pier Hotel in a suite that will accomodate 8 people is equal to only 2 nights at the Grand Floridian, and you only get 2 standard rooms that connect. WOW!
I have no idea how much per night that is, but combining the two rooms into one accomodation for one family, that would have to be in excess of $1000 a night don't you think?
I've learned a valuable lesson. |
