| FerretAfros Thu 11/30/2006 9:31p | Great pictures. It is always nice seeing the parks decorated for the holidays. That said, I can't believe how dated and out of place a lot of that stuff looks. The garland over Main Street looks nice, but it seems to be a little too droopy for my taste, and I'm not such a fan of the candle in the wreaths. Had WDW ever done the Mickey wreaths like DL? Those look great, and seem to get updated every few years. The plastic looking things in Toontown look not so great either. I understand the effect they are going for, but it just didn't turn out well. Are all those hearts always on Minnie's house? They look a little excessive and rediculous.
Also, when was the last time they updated the tree? The oversized gingerbread men and other giant decorations really make it look fake. The base designed for the spot near the hub looks great, but that's about it. IMO, they should stuff it with ornaments, like the DL and DCA trees, so the focus isn't the tree, but the stuff on it. At this point it looks like they ran out of money, and it's fairly obvious that it is fake and can be split into sections (based on the garland around it). Although I have no problem with having a fake tree and keeping it decorated from year to year, they need to make sure it looks really classy to justify keeping it that way.
I really don't want to ruin any of the holiday spirit. I think that it is great that they do so much decorating in WDW. However, after seeing what they do at DL, I just think that WDW could stand to refresh some of the things around the park. I've seen things on the Travel Channel about decorating WDW for the holidays, and apparently they employ 6-12 people year round, and from the looks of it, they don't really do much most of the year. I don't think that it all needs to be drastically changed, but a few updates in various places arounf the park would make it look a lot better (just like how I feel about the Christmas parade). |

Of course they do.
They store and organize the same decades old decorations for the next year.
It would be nice to see some new stuff, but as Al Weiss or Meg Crofton or Jay Rasulo would tell you 'Why spend the money, the idiot tourists don't know the difference.'
This isn't DL or DLP and it sure as Hades ain't TDL.

| Westsider Fri 12/1/2006 8:37p | Those Magic Kingdom decorations are embarassing. Did Orlando get stuck in a time warp and someone thinks it is still 1978? Or are they really just that cheap and unstylish on purpose?
Seriously, those decorations are just sad.
I was walking through Disneyland the other morning before the Park opened and I was reminded of how OVER THE TOP GORGEOUS they make Disneyland look for Christmas. It looks like they spent a million bucks on every land they decorate; New Orleans, Frontierland, Toontown, Main Street, etc. and it looks like Martha Stewart and a panel of hip fashionistas and expert designers guided every decoration from design through installation.
At WDW it looks like they spent about 40 bucks total to do Main Street. If I can be generous I would say 50 bucks tops, and obviously someone went to a sale at an Orlando Wal-Mart. |
