| seafairy Wed 12/13/2006 6:17p | I have been to DW twice. the first time we stayed at AKL,which was beautiful,we got an really good deal so we were able to stay there.last August we stayed at POFQ,also very nice we loved the pool.we are planning on going Dec.2007 want to stay at Coronado Springs, but if we stay at all star movies,it would be cheaper,we need 2 rooms.I know we won't be in the room that much, but disabled husband might be.The value resorts look cute, but I have only been to the 2 other resorts and don't want to be too dissapointed.thank-you,seafairy |

Since the moderate resorts have more check-in windows per room than the value resorts you will spend much less time at check-in. I've waited up to an hour to check-in at the All Stars and never waited over 20 minutes at the moderates.
I think there is a bigger difference between the value and the moderates than there is between the moderates and the deluxes. If the higher cost does not take away from something else you want to do, I think the extra expense of the moderates is well worth it.
On the other hand, I've stayed at the value resorts several times and have always had a good experience. The main thing you need to do is realize up front that there is a reason why you can get these rooms for under $100 per night. If you go in with realistic expectations you will be satisfied.

There is little floor space in the values (Ie not much the beds. Also there is only one sink in moderates with little counter space. Also values have minimal storage. (A Small Amoire/TV Unit and closet). That said if you're only looking for a bed to sleep in, then it's fine. Oh and no ceiling fans in values.
Buses are usually a little less crowded with moderates.
What is your usual hotel taste?
If your answer is Super 8, Fairfield, then go for the values. If your answer is somewhat more posh and you spend some time in the room, go for the moderates. Also do you use any amenities? The Values have the basics. Also how sensitive are you to noise? If you are, request a value room away from the Pools.
If we aren't staying at Ft. Wilderness, we usually do the bulk of our vacation at a value then upgrade to a moderate or deluxe resort for the last weekend and just "chill" at the resort. |

Are you certain that is the case? I thought I remembered ceiling fans in all Disney resorts. After all, it is to their advantage. The presence of a ceiling fan will typically reduce the use of air conditioning which is much more expensive.

Correction; Moderates have two pedistal sinks in each room with little counter space.
I enjoy Moderates. But I would try a Value. This past trip I stayed in one of the hotels in Downtown Disney for under $100 a night. It was the size of a deluxe with two queen size beds. |

| stitchcrazy Thu 12/14/2006 7:37a | We haven't tried out the value resorts yet, however as of this last week we've now stayed at all the moderates. And my personal order of preference is Port Orleans French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside, Caribbean Beach and then Coronado Springs.
The two parts of the Port Orleans resort have a boat that takes you down to Downtown Disney. I love this feature. French Quarter is the smallest of the moderates which I consider a factor as the other 3 are huge. French Quarter does share buses with Riverside so as far as # of bus stops I think they're all comparable. French Quarter is the only one of the four that does not have "quiet pools" which are unthemed pools near your rooms and generally a shorter walk than the main "fun" themed pool.
Carribbean Beach I was just at first last week. Loved the theming. Loved the beaches with the hammocks. Did not like the pool which was possibly the smallest of the 4 resorts at least from my memory of them. Did not like the hot tub which was somewhat situated in the middle of the pool. Did not like our building -it was the furtherest out from the resort, it was a 10 minute walk to the main building where the main pool and food was. We had a better view of Pop Century than anything else from our building!
Coronado Springs I liked outside theming but thought at least our room the inside theming was pretty ugly. Its the only moderate that has one sink instead of two outside the bathroom. We had a super breakfast buffet at the Maya Grill there. It has the largest hot tub that I've seen at any hotel and the pool is huge too. We had bad luck with busses and didn't care for their quick service restaurant where you pay an automatic gratuity on your way out for a server that brings you drinks and that's about it. Its a weird system the restaurant uses all around.
I didn't hate any of the moderates. They are all nice in their own way. I didn't feel overcharged or ripped off at any of them. In the end there's just things that for my personal preference I like ones more than others. I say if you decide to stay at a moderate instead of a value, pick the theming and amenties that sound like what you'll like the most and go for it! |
