| davewasbaloo Fri 12/15/2006 1:18a | I like the way they seem to have fit Cinderella into the France scene. If done right, I think this could be really nice! |

| fredddy Fri 12/15/2006 1:19p | "The dark rides weren't included as the thinking was that flats-animated dark rides just aren't relevant any more. Peter Pan is always the exception but rides like Snow White and Pinocchio aren't going to drive attendance anywhere" And do you think that Autopia is more relevant? It is probably cheaper to build than a dark ride, but in the twenty-first century, even in HK where not everybody has a car, I do not think that Autopia is the ride that will "drive" people to this park. For me, Disney means dark rides more than anything else. The small Fantasyland DR and of cpourse the e-ticket dark rides like Pirates, HM, Indy Adventure... HKDL has got nearly none of that...

| Witches of Morva Fri 12/15/2006 1:50p | ORDDU: That's a very good point, Freddy, duckling. The dark rides have always been the most immersive in terms of experiencing fantasy. Since Uncle Walt was the one who wanted them in his first park, my sisters and I tend to have more confidence in his vision than any other's. He 'got' dark rides, obviously, and that's good enough for us.
ORWEN: When you stop to think of it, Pirates of the Caribbean is a dark ride on a grand scale. I think the average Disney guest certainly 'gets' that one! |

My hunch is that your view is not that of the average guest. When they think of Disney attractions like Space, Big Thunder, Mansion and Pirates will be front-and-foremost. I don't see the Fantasyland dark rides as being drivers of attendance at any park. There is a reason why The Little Mermaid dark ride wasn't built for Paris. It was too expensive and wasn't going to hook guests like Space Mountain.
<<Since Uncle Walt was the one who wanted them in his first park, my sisters and I tend to have more confidence in his vision than any other's.>>
I won't ever understand that opinion at all so I won't even try. The guy has been dead for over 40 years. And just because they were cute and fine back then they should be relevant today? Nonsense. Doesn't mean dark rides don't have a place at any Disneyland but it means they aren't a draw. Plenty of people ride them and plenty of people skip them. It seems rides like Buzz and Monsters are more relevant dark rides to today's audience than Snow White. |

Is that why they are in EVERY MK and they spent $50 in 1983 to redo DLs?
""There is a reason why The Little Mermaid dark ride wasn't built for Paris.""
Lee, i know WHO you are so i expect this kind of line. Its common knowledge why that did not happen. When EuroDisney started swimming in red, Eisner freaked and vowed no expensive projects. Thats why Tony had to scurry and build cheap but QUALITY stuff like Casey Jr and Storybook Land.
""And just because they were cute and fine back then they should be relevant today?""
So i guess the OVER 30min waits that PAN has on both coasts mean its IRrelevant?
""It seems rides like Buzz and Monsters are more relevant dark rides to today's audience than Snow White""
of COURSE they are more relevant when they get built and opened 2sec after the movie comes out and are tied into Consumer Products. Thats what means "relevant" to Disney.
Relevant=tied into CURRENT property/trend that ties into Consumer Products. These anti pre-1984 tirades of yours are tiring. |
