I have been visiting WDW since it opened. First, day trips with my parents when it was just The Magic Kingdom, then staying on property for multi days when Epcot was added. All my years as a child and the first 6 of my marriage I always stayed in the Contemporary Tower (except for one time we gave The Polynesian a try.) When my two oldest kids were young we got to stay in the tower once. We have four kids now and have to stay in the garden Wings or (groan) The All-Star Music (my worst experience ever at Disney). I really miss being in the tower and seeing the Magic Kingdom fireworks. All these "save you money guides" talk about saving hundreds or thousands of dollars but I've never been able to figure out a way to get the 6 of us back up in the tower. Especially since Disney requires 2 rooms for 6 people.
Any friendly suggestions?
Don

How old is your youngest child? If you have a child under three that could sleep in a crib you would only need one room at the Contemporary.

The perfect Disney age but you will need two rooms as you stated!

The only possibility is if there would be an Annual Passholder discount available for the Contemporary at the time you plan to go. If there was, you could buy one annual pass and the savings on the rooms would exceed the extra you would need to spend on the pass.

Unfortunately, these discounts are given when Disney has a bunch or rooms they need to fill at a resort, and that usually doesn't happen at the Contemporary.

You might want to check out a two-bedroom unit at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. Although you don't get the view that you do at the Contemporary, it is a great location on Bay Lake. You can use boat transportation for transit directly to the Contemporary, the Magic Kingdom or Fort Wilderness.

The two bedroom units are huge (1,080 square feet), sleep eight and have both a living room and a full kitchen. You would also have a washer and dryer inside your unit.

Rates during January for two tower rooms at the Contemporary would be $730 per night. The cost of a two-bedroom unit at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge would be $590 per night... a substantial savings.

You could also rent DVC points to pay for the lodging. During January the two-bedroom unit requires 270 points per week. You can usually rent points at $10 each so it would cost $2,700 or an average of only $385 per night -- about half of what two rooms at the Contemporary would cost.

Good advice Trippy. Also, considering WL, I believe there are large family rooms there too, but I am unsure of how many they sleep.

Sadly, when it comes to Disney World, large families have 4 options:

1. Two rooms

2. DVC/Fort Wilderness Cabins (they sleep 6)

3. A suite

4. Stay off site.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
