I swore off the vile stuff DECADES ago before I ever set foot out of America, and never re-sampled.
Interesting...MAYBE I'll try it (what the hell, the past two weeks have had me ingesting fish eggs, urchin gonads, octopus and clam pizza, green crab head puss...amoung other things...how much worse could diet coke be?? :p). |

Really? Are you sure? I know that until just a few years ago, Japan had Coca Cola Light instead of Diet Coke. That product was a low calorie beverage, as opposed to Diet Coke's zero calorie formula. Light tasted very different, but then Japan switched to Diet Coke and I thought it had the same formula as in the US.
As luck would have it, I happen to have one unopened bottle of Diet Coke that I imported from Japan on my recent trip, and it's sitting cold in my refridgerator. Looking at the label, it says that the sweetener is "PAL Sweet Diet" which according to Google is the Japan brand name for aspartame, which is called Nutrasweet in the US, and which is the same sweetener used in the US in Diet Coke.
Well, I've just conducted a side-by-side taste test, and the results are in: TDLFAN is right. Japanese Diet Coke does taste different than the US version, and I think it's better as well. Since they use the same sweetener, I'm not sure how to explain the difference, but there must be something different elsewhere in the formula. |

I am always right, but you always make me look bad with your excellent writting skills and logical arguing style. That's how the republicans convinced this nation that it was good to keep Bush for another 4 yrs. |

Blecch!
Sounds like the grape soda with eyeballs in it. |

| Mr X Sun 1/14/2007 6:22p | Jim, my first week ever in Japan I opened up a bottle of "something" in my hotel room. Being incredibly naive at the time, I figured "well, it's just a soda or something...couldn't be THAT bad".
It was like drinking a glass of bile.
I still have never figured out what the heck it was, but someone suggested maybe it was seaweed water or something. Ugh.
TDLFAN is RIGHT about something? Wow..stop the presses! :p |
