Hi everyone,
I'm planning a trip for the family to WDW for the end of August (22nd to 30th). I was under the impressions the crowds are thinning at that time, even though its hot. Am I correct?

It's my daughter's 8th grade graduation present and we're thinking of staying at either the Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom lodge, or Port Orleans Riverside. The Lodges only amount to about $600 more than Riverside, so I may give one of them a chance. I've never stayed at a Deluxe resort, only the Moderates. Can you give me your impressions, Pros and Cons.

Thanks.

Weather hot then, yes, but crowds shoud be thinning.

The deluxes arte great, but if you're going to spend very little time at the hotel and treat it only as a place to sleep, then it's a waste of money to go up to a deluxe IMO.

That siad, I LOVE the AKL, and hope to stay there again someday! hehe And I love the look & feel of the common areas at WL and would like to sleep there sometime, too! :) hehe

Thanks Labuda,

I haven't discussed the hotel with my wife, yet, but one of the down sides of the deluxes is that we'd miss the Food Courts of the Moderates. My kids love the chocolate chip pancakes, and would miss that if it wasn't served at the other hotels. Especially for breakfast, we like the counter service over the table service.

You may know this but you can still get counter service at AKL, at the Mara, and at the WL, at Roaring Forks.

Here's the menus - http://www.allearsnet.com/menu

Pancakes are mentioned for the WL, but I don't know if they have chocolate chips or not :).

Cheklle - I think it would say if they were choc chip pancakes, based on the fact that when I looked at the Reiverside food court, it specifies choc chip...

hightp, we went to dw last aug. 28. we could not believe how empty it was. It also was right when hurricane ernesto hit,but it was just raining off and on it didn't last long. we walked on almost all the rides. we walked right on experition everest. we did 4 parks in 2 days.It was hot. we bought the fans with water they were nice! we are going back in July. we stayed at POFQ last time loved it. the time before that we stayed at AKL loved that too. I would save the money and stay in the moderate they are nice too,and we didn't spend that much time in the hotel. have a great time!seafairy

seafairy, thanks for the information. It's good to hear the parks were empty, though I don't wish for a hurricaine. We stayed in the French Quarter on our last trip in '03, and liked it a lot. We also liked Caribbean Beach, but were looking for something a little different.

I'm not a big fan of the heat, but a hot, humid summer day in Orlando is pretty much like a hot humid summer day in Philadelphia. We'll pack some hats, fans and water bottles and go off to the parks.
