"Seems to me you have gotten used to the cheapness of flying Virgin to Orlando, and the cheapness of the WDW resorts...and feel skeptical topay the right price for a true Disney experience like the one at TDR."

Yes hello

This is just plain ridiculous. Obviously the reason most of us haven't ponied up and made it to TDR is because we don't really know what real quality is. We r dum.

Newsflash: The insane price to fly an entire family to/from Tokyo is probably the main reason most of us haven't ever been to TDR. Not only that, but I bet a lot of people would get pretty damn frustrated by the language / food / culture barrier as well.

For the same price as a round trip flight to Tokyo + lodging + park tickets + food, etc, anyone here in the US can visit every single Disney park in the country. Not only that, but it would include the "true Disney experience" of going to the original Disney theme park, Disneyland.

Also, I could easily take a great two week long east-coast coaster tour with some friends for significantly less than a long weekend in Tokyo, and I'd get a LOT more value out it, too.

Of course, you had to throw a cheap shot at WDW in there too. That was really clever and unpredictable! I bet nobody here saw that one coming!

I enjoy all the Disney theme parks all around the world, except Walt Disney Studios Paris which is such a miserable little park. I really had a tough time enjoying Hong Kong Disneyland--what's there is very nice, but there's so little of it that it's hard to even think of it as a Magic Kingdom of any kind.

Having been to Walt Disney World many many times (I enjoy it greatly), and the Disneyland Resort many many times (I enjoy it greatly), nothing in the world compares to the Tokyo Disney Resort.

Yes, hotels are more expensive (though that can be mitigated by staying at the Hilton for $200 a night if you go at the right time of year), but park admission costs less, food in the parks costs about the same if you avoid the hoity-toity restaurants in the two Disney hotels and Ikspiari.

The only really big difference in expense (unless you always stay at All Stars Sports, Music, or Pop Century in WDW) is the airfare--that's the major addition to your expenses. Instead of paying $250 to $400 to fly to Orlando or Anaheim, you'll pay $800 to $1000 to fly to Tokyo. That is, tops, an extra $600 per person. That's not an insignificant number, but it's also not a crazy number, either.
It really depends what kind of a Disney nut you are.
The other barriers in Japan such as language and food are really non-issues at the Tokyo Disney resort. I speak no more than a dozen Japanese words and eat mostly Western food while there--it's never a problem.
TDLFAN is, of course, the most vocal fan of the Tokyo Disney Resort, but he's far from the only one. He lives in Orlando so he bitches about WDW a lot. That's easy to understand--familiarity breeds contempt. He be less complimentary about the Tokyo Resort if he lived in Tokyo. The more time you spend someplace, the more its faults become apparent to you.

But TDLFAN spends just as much time at the other Disney parks as he does at WDW since he's part of the airline industry. I believe he said he owns an annual pass to each resort around the world and visits each at least once a month.

TDLFAN is passionate about Disney and despite what criticism he makes about WDW its only because he cares about the place and what Disney has allowed it to become. And often enough he's not the only one to share this view.

I don't think he gets to visit DLP as much as the others. Oh, and the original Disneyland. His work takes him to Asia mostly, so thats where he's able to visit much more often.

Also, people get on his case for being so negative towards WDW, but they have to understand that in addition to an avid park fan, he was a CM at WDW for a while too. So, he's got that level of expectation too. For anybody who knows what WDW was like in the 70's and 80's both as guests and CM's, then it's easier to understand where he's coming from. The quality has taken a turn for the worse, and he just happens to point it out a lot.

I remember TDLFAN saying that he visits each resort at least once a month. He usually visits one resort right after the other. The only exception would be DLR, which I believe he doesn't visit as often.

I would love to go to TDl - but for us from the UK FLA/CA is $2000 for flights, using loyalty vouchers and driving to paris is about £200-300

HKDL & TDL is $4300 for flights. The reality is I am not prepared to spend that much and sacrifice a couple of years vacations to do it when the kids are so small and it takes us 4 times as long to do a park as a singleton or adult couple.

However, I will finally go when the kids are older and can appreciate it more.

Well... hello everyone from my little side of the World. I will be at HKDL the day after tomorrow, and the TDR the day after that. Did you see my pics from my visit to DLP last week? Check Paris' section if you haven't..
And what is this nonsense about "familiarity breeding comptempt"???
If I didn't go to TDR nearly as often as I go to WDW, I'd believe that bunch of bologna.

lol. So very true in your case!!

Well, TDLFAN, it appears we'll miss each other yet again, unless you are willing to give up a day at Tokyo Disney Resort in exchange for joining me at the Stevie Wonder concert?
