<<Instead of paying $250 to $400 to fly to Orlando or Anaheim, you'll pay $800 to $1000 to fly to Tokyo. That is, tops, an extra $600 per person. That's not an insignificant number, but it's also not a crazy number, either.>>

Bear in mind a significant number of WDW and DLR guests do not fly to the resorts, but drive. Also, assuming a family of four, $2400 extra is a significant amount of money, enough that for many people it would mean having to make some significant sacrifices.

From their hotels after *flying* into town. There may be a large number of domestic travelers who drive to WDW from neighboring states along the east coast and midwest, but the majority of people coming to WDW fly into Orlando.

That doesn't contradict what I said, as I said a significant number, not a majority. I was also speaking about both resorts, not just WDW.

Again, even if we're talking about the difference in airfare, $2400 is a lot of money to average wage-earners, especially when we're talking about families that want to have a yearly vacation.

Another issue would be hotel accomodations. Unlike in Florida and California where you could get a room for four for under $100 (sometimes well under), a room of that size in Tokyo would be significantly more.

Where can you get a room to sleep four for under $100 in Tokyo, other than a ryokan?

The Palm & Fountain Terrace Hotel have rooms that sleep 4 (with 4 single beds) for $138/night in the off season, which isn't too far off from US$100 when you consider that Japanese hotel rates are quoted inclusive of all taxes and service charges.

And, being TDR Partner Hotels and near the resort, they offer free continuous bus service to and from TDR, and they're actually closer to the resort than some of the Disney hotels are to the MK at WDW.

Granted, it would be a totally different experience than taking a family with kids to WDW for a week. But for those people that don't have kids, or perhaps those that do that are curious about TDR and want to do a once-in-a-lifetime trip to visit there, it doesn't have to break the bank.

SD, ever logical. It's amazing that people just don't listen to you (because I keep hearing the same arguments that you keep refuting with facts, over and over!).

One thing though...the palm and terrace might just be "closer", but I'd give the edge to DisneyWorld on this one cause the sights leading up to the Magic Kingdom on that bus ride are a WHOLE lot nicer than being stuck in bumper to bumper Urayasu traffic mid-morning. ;)

Sorry to kill your hype.

But, on the flip-side, you're neighbors with all the cast members from abroad who enjoy VERY loud parties (WorldDisney and SuperDry are familiar with the area and the accomodations), and can be seen and heard at all hours of the night. :)

On the OTHER flip-side...nowhere at WDW can you find a world class Japanese style bath, but there is one located right next door to the Palm and Terrace...one of the newest and most elaborate places around! Can't wait to check it out (I understand it is costly, but worth every penny!).

It's not that I am not listening, I am just presenting the other side of the coin. It seems to me that many here who say it's not so expensive to go to TDR aren't the head of a family. I know for certain TDLFAN isn't. I am not either.

And it's not just about Disney, it's about Japan and Asia in general. Most people just don't want to go there, for a variety of reasons, no matter how excellent a place it is. It's a combination of cost, fear, and who knows what else.

Why does every TDR thread seem to degenerate into a discussion about travel costs to Japan?

I thought this thread was about the Fortress Exploration guides.
