We have heard that the Tokyo Disneyland Dreamlights parade will debut new floats on March 17 from the original design team.

One addition will be Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother. The scene will depict the dress transformation all done in lights.

OLC have opted not to push ahead with a new nighttime parade at TDL due to budget constraints ahead of the 25th and therefore the "refreshing" of Dreamlights is to last a few years.

Let's see how that transformation effect turns out. As good as the one in "Mickey Mouse "Revue"? Hehehe. -- MagicalNezumi

^^ :-)

From what I've heard it sounds pretty neat. I haven't been able to determine if the new floats are replacements or just new inclusions. If it is the latter it sure is going to make a long parade even longer!

Well, both characters are already featured in Dreamlights. Cindy is in her coach and the Fairy Godmother is in the "waving wand" float. So I figure replacemnents? -- MagicalNezumi

^^ Very good point. Sounds like good reasoning.

So just to clear something for me the new editions will be coming this March 17th 2007 or March 17 2008?

Just got the final list:

New units:

Monsters Inc w/ Sulley, Mike and Boo
Cinderella and Fairy Godmother
Nemo whirlybug
Dory whirlybug
Nemo unit w/ Crush and sea creatures

Units being removed:

2 Bugs life units
Cinderella coach
Fairy Godmother unit

I'm delighted to see the Bug's Life units go (never liked the Pixar thread in the middle of the parade personally) and I'm in a huge Nemo lovefest at the moment so delighted to see that all happen. I'm sure the whirlybugs will be hugely popular.

All good changes for me.

Sounds interesting. And the best news of all is:

<<< OLC have opted not to push ahead with a new nighttime parade at TDL due to budget constraints ahead of the 25th and therefore the "refreshing" of Dreamlights is to last a few years. >>>

Whether due to budget constraints or not, I think this is good news. I was worried that we were going to get a Light Magic 2008 or something else stupid by someone that thought the ELP/Dreamlights concept was "tired." And the fact that it's being refreshed is great news. I think that keeping Dreamlights around is money well saved.

Although I generally like the idea of the entertainment being changed out every now and then, I think that the ELP (especially the Dreamlights version) is a Disney classic and one that can stay in the park indefinitely much in the same way that Mickey never gets tired and doesn't need to be replaced by newer mascots.

I recently showed a video of Dreamlights to my dad, who had not been to a Disney park since going with me 30+ years ago to DL when I was a kid. His first comment was "They haven't changed the music" (this wasn't a negative comment, but just a neutral observation). It's astounding to me that he would remember the music for a Disney parade that he hadn't seen in over 30 years. Can you imagine any other Disney parade being able to stick in your head like that?

Leemac, there was some question on another board as to what a parade like Dreamlights costs to develop from scratch. One number that came up that seems like it might be about right is $30 million. Do you happen to know?

I'm not sure I understand your comment - isn't Nemo also from Pixar?

^^ It wasn't because it was Pixar per se but how the units and performers were lit. I always struggled with both the Toy Story and Bug's Life units as the lighting just wasn't as strong as the opening or it's a small world finale.
