Part of why this just doesn't seem to be that big of a deal is how well it works. You really feel like they are there and alive, not that there is some guy in a room somewhere watching a video screen controlling what's going on. I think that is one of the coolest thing about this show. It has a really high immersion factor, so you don't even realize how much technology is being used in it. Also, it looks like they are planning on keeping Muppet Vision around for a while, since they could have done any characters. I'm glad to see this around, since I've always felt that Muppets are naturally great shapes to make AA's, and perhaps there will be more in the future. |

Something else pretty neat is that while I was there Saturday morning, after the lab had gone backstage, I started to talk to a man who had a sticker badge on. I leaned in closer and my mouth just dropped ... it was Steve Whitmire, the voice of not only Beaker but Kermit. I said in awe, "your Kermit!" He was so nice. He then took me over and introduced me to Dave Goelz, the voice of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (and Gonzo the Great). I asked if I could take my picture with them and Steve suggested we move so that Muppet Vision 3D would be in the background. They were both so nice and Steve and I talked about Muppets, Jim Henson and my favorite Muppet movie, Muppet Christmas Carol. It was a real highlight for me.
So what you saw Dr. Honeydew talking about was really the real voice of Dave Goelz off somewhere talking. Of course when they come back in the future the voice will be recorded but set to sound as if it is really interacting right then and there. That was one of the things they were taking notes on. This is what Steve told me. Some others are saying they can voice these characters live from, say, Burbank. But I would think in that case it would have to be someone who really sounds like Dave Goelz, or whatever character they come up with.
Really amazing stuff. And you know when Honeydew said he had heard of Laughing Place? They do know these various Disney boards but they do not comment on them; again, according to Steve. |

On another note, DlandDug sounds much more chipper than I had imagined. But maybe that's because hanging out over in WE for a few weeks, everyone sounds kinda like Grumpy after a while.

| ni_teach Tue 3/6/2007 8:48a | wendygirl - I wish that I could have been there and meet the with you. I'm glad to see that they are using the same actors as were on the show.
I so glad that Disney has not given up on 3d characters, considering all the work that they are doing with digital video |

Yes, he puppeteers Rizzo, that was a break away character for him. |
