>>I do know that Bruce Broughton has composed the film score to the new Canada film (He told me so himself). He didn't mention if the old song was in or not though.<<<

Oh, Canada is more than just a song in the Canadian show it is their National Anthem just as the Star Spangled Banner is ours. To leave that out would amount to an omission of national pride for them. Not a good thing!

The song from the Canada is "Canada, (You're A Lifetime Journey)," not "Oh, Canada."

There are other songs used in the film too, like Stan Rogers' "Bluenose" during the Maritimes segment.

It's a shame that memorable music is no longer a priority. I remember reading in "Walt's Time" something about the music was the one thing you took with you when you went home. You could hear a few bars of "its a small world" or "Grim Grinning Ghosts" and instantly you are transported back to the attraction.

There have been a few nice orchestral scores that work, like Soarin's music, but nothing like the old Epcot, and Sherman Brothers style music and I miss it. Thank goodness for the 1991 Official Album.

I think the problem that TPP have with Sherman-esque music is that it can dominate a film which makes it exceptionally difficult to tell a story. The older Epcot movies were usually just travelogues with no real structure. Personally I prefer the theatrical scores (particularly those in DCA like Golden Dreams, Soarin' and Seasons of the Vine).

Bruce Broughton is a wonderful individual. Hugely talented and no ego like some of the composers that TPP have approached in the past like James Newton Howard who turned his nose up at the opportunity to score Mythica in TDS.

<<And, Trippy, you can't rely upon wikipedia for accurate info.>>

I don't. And I also found the information about maintenance costs and ridership a tad hard to swallow.

But I have heard from several sources that Disney was contractually obligated to Kodak to change the attraction, so I consider that part very reliable. And that part was the primary answer to "Why did Disney change it?".

I just got this from another reputable contributor here on LP...

Apparently there's some permit that's just been applied for, to put up a huge billboard on I-4, intended to advertise the Disney Vacation Clubs - with a GIANT WAND hovering over it.

I thought that was hysterical. It might be coincidence... The other contributor didn't tell me the size/dimensions of the wand, but we ALL KNOW how Disney hates to throw anything away...

Sheesh... the DVC will go down in history as the project that single-handedly destroyed the integrity of the Contemporary Resort... so why not add insult to injury and add that GIANT WAND over it as well???

<<I think we may be missing how significant this posy by Merf is. This is just yet more colaboration as to what spirit said over a week ago. It's really things like this that will make LaughingPlace grow. I think it is slowly being established that all of the information was gathered right here. A lot of people did come here from several other sites to hear what Spirit was saying.>>

Are you trying to give me an ego? :-)

And, if that's true, I feel bad because there's so much more I'd like to say but can't ... yet.

I dunno, Lee.

I enjoy all of the examples you cite quite a bit.

But I also enjoyed the original EPCOT Center musical suite. I can still hear the Sherman Bros Making Memories in my head and that was just a preshow at Captain Eo ... and One Little Spark is was the perfect Imagination theme.

I will reserve my judgment of the new Canada film and score until I see it ... but I LOVED the music ... and that song is one of Epcot's best. It would have been nice to see it included in the new film.

BTW, how many minutes have they cut on this film (is it like China where 6-8 minutes were cut)?
