| Spirit of 74 Wed 6/20/2007 9:39p | <<Wait until the Comtemp's DVC opens up. More stress on the system. I'd be interested to know how much DVC is going to contribute to the Monorail's operating budget.>>
DVC at the Contemporary?!?!
What DVC?
There's nothing going on behind those walls. Maybe they're drilling for oil ... or tapping a new freshwater supply.
But you know that since Disney hasn't announced anything (much like the wand removal, WoL gutting, new Star Tours etc ...) it can't possibly be happening.
I'm sure DVC will gladly sell you points at the lovely, and almost complete, Saratoga Springs or perhaps our newest property, the amazing, exotic Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas!
But DVC at the Contemporary?
Crazy.
Next you'll be telling me they're building a 14-story tower there. ;-)

| Jim in Merced CA Wed 6/20/2007 10:01p | What's the controversy about the DVC that isn't being built at the Contemporary?
I'm not a DVC member, so won't be staying there, but don't see why it's an issue for the property as a whole.
Is it going to be ugly? Intrusive? What gives? |

It aint exactly pretty though.
The current trend in architecture is to really make a statement but also take note of your surroundings, and thus react to them. Swolphin is the old philosophy of boldly standing out and making a statement. The new DVC at Contemporary is standing out by being circular juxtaposed to a square building (oo, aah, geometry) but carries the lines from the A-frame. To architects this is perfect.
To the rest of us, it's kina ugly. |

| mousermerf Wed 6/20/2007 10:25p | Oh, and before people complain - it could be much worse. It could be pre-Swolphin when the idea was to make to not even make a statement, just exist, and function. It explains many of the sleek and square buildings that echo inside - similiar too but not quite the original A-frame. |

My inflexive question was on my worry that the monorails might not get as much funding as they deserve from this addition. |

| ChiMike Thu 6/21/2007 7:05a | And I do feel bad for anyone who bought into Saratoga Springs not knowing that longer contracts were also going to be offered at AKL or CONTEMP. and aren't exactly thrilled with SS. |

| gurgitoy2 Thu 6/21/2007 8:00a | Wait, so once you buy into DVC you're "stuck" at the resort you chose? You couldn't, say, stay at the new Contemporary units if you wanted to if you picked Saratoga Springs? |

| tonyanton Thu 6/21/2007 8:05a | the only real difference with your "home" resort (the DVC locale points are bought into) is that you can book further out (11 months vs. 7 months, last I checked). someone who bought SS can stay at Contemporary provided there are villas available 7 months out. |

| MPierce Thu 6/21/2007 3:25p | I kind of like the way the Contemporary DVC looks. I actually think they did an excellent job of blending in two distinctly shaped buildings. It reminds me of some of the stunning architecture, and distinctive design in Miami. One of the most well blended distinctive designes of modern, contempory, art deco buildings in the world. Just my opinion. I guess we will have to wait, and see when the new building, that they are not building, as of now, goes up. |
