Man, how I remember this ride way back just after a few years EPCOT opens. I always liked that part seeing Earth from far away. It was like we were floating in space.

Does anyone else remember the floating astronaut, the one you used to see as you began your descent from the top of the sphere?I remember he was barely lit,so it was easy to miss him.
That's probably why he was removed.

That crane --- what a beutiful site.
It instills a "new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere."

Here's hope that EPCOT is heading in a new direction!

Weren't there 2 astronauts? One guy out working, and a lady inside a control room but still suited up, IIRC.

It's entirely possible, Jim, although my feeble brain seems to place them just as you're coming out of the planetarium area, just before the virtual classroom. I could be wrong, tho.

I think Dan was right. I remember the astronaut doing a spacewalk, while a female astronaut guided him from inside the spaceship. I think this was removed when the Jeremy Irons narration was added. I'll have to check my old videos of the attraction to be sure.
