I haven't exactly made reservations yet. I'm planning to call exactly 6 months before. I'm scheduling a visit sometime in mid July again. July 8 or 9 if possible.

MiraCosta (as far as the public figure) cost around 1.2 billion. Since so much of the combined cost includes some areas of DisneySea park itself, it's very hard to derive an exact estimate. But I've heard 1.2 billion for MiraCosta, and 2.2-2.8 billion for the park. These figures sound about right, but I've heard that the actual money spent by OLC on the entire project was *more* then $4 billion... off the books... and on my last visit to the resort, (with an architect enthusiast, whose jaw was on the floor the whole trip) am totally convinced that 'off the books' number is closer to the truth.

We've heard the stories about WDI having to 'keep spending money' because they hadn't spent enough of the budget. Think just one second about that. Now I love WDI, but they're not exactly shy about spending money. ESPECIALLY when it's not Disney's money. I just don't buy that they came 1 BILLION dollars under-budget on the DisneySea construction. I think OLC added a billion to the budget when they saw the potential of what they had (or what WDI convinced them they needed).

I think this is actually a great secret. 0I had a conversation with someone close to the project the other day who, although precise figures are forbidden to be talked about, let me rest on a tantalizing piece of the puzzle: everything you see on the DisneySea entrance side (meaning, the AquaSphere, The MiraCosta, the entranceway, monorail station, entrance village, the tree-lined driveway, the fountains) cost MORE then the total cost of entire Disneyland Resort expansion in 2001. Yes... including Downtown Disney, the Grand Californian, DCA, the parking garage, and everything else. ??That is a staggering concept. But... on the other hand... it looks it.

The point is, no one outside of OLC really know how much they spent, other then what they shared in their press release. People have expressed time and time again that it was quite a bit more, and I'm inclined to believe them. The proof is in the results.

And conversely, as good as the TDR additions look, this only makes the DLR expansion look and seem even worse.

It really is pathetic, isn't it?

I too have heard that the "official" figures released by the OLC are a large underestimate. They have been known to do this. One example is Pooh's Hunny Hunt. Their press release states the attraction costing just a bit over $100 million, but the reality of the situation was that it cost nearly $200 million.

And I believe this total figure does not include the cost of the interior of the MiraCosta, correct?

If I were a stockholder, that would piss me off greatly.

Yes indeed. It's hard to believe that Imagineers went 1 or 2 billion dollars overbudget on the DisneySea project alone. Not that I'm not glad it didn't happen (I'm overjoyed at the result), but I doubt something like that will *ever* happen again. Nor will that much money and detail ever be put into another theme park.

As a themepark fan I am and was ecstatic at the result. Sorry but way too much emphasis is on what shareholders these days. ESPECIALLY in the Walt Disney Company.

**Sorry but way too much emphasis is on what shareholders these days. ESPECIALLY in the Walt Disney Company.**

I understand your point, and I'm not into shareholders being "catered to" as WDC tends to go overboard with.

MY point is that shareholders shouldn't be lied to, which sounds like the case when published figures are downplayed (if true). Trust me, in the long run it's not good for the company OR the customers.
