It sounds like what you are saying is that the area is going to be Route 66 done up so that it looks like something.

I have an idea, why not just get rid of the CARS part of carland and just make it a fun hot rod sort of ride?

I know. But, really, the Cars movie really does not need to have the slightest thing to do with it.

"there was a huge deal made about how Radiator Springs (where the majority of the film takes place) is specifically NOT in California. They don't say where it is, but Lightning keeps mentioning how he needs to get to California, which would be a stupid thing to say if he was already in the state."

I dunno.

I have heard people standing in the TTC, waiting for the express monorail saying they wanted to go to "Walt Disney World".

Okay, Jonvn, I'll grant you the over-reaching to get the Little Mermaid in a California beach-side pier.

But if they were going to do a Route 66 area, you don't think Cars (Radiator Springs and all that) fits perfectly?

That's akin to putting a Cinderella attraction in Fantasyland, but then saying "Why couldn't it be based on EVER AFTER instead of the cartoon!?"

Which do you dislike more, Jonvn? Cartoon-based attractions, or attractions that don't fit in their themed location?

Let's say you were put in charge of a Cars attraction. Where would you put it? Fantasyland? Or Route 66?

Actually, yes. It's a pretty good fit.

"Cartoon-based attractions, or attractions that don't fit in their themed location?"

Hmm....I think out of theme attractions are much worse.

"Let's say you were put in charge of a Cars attraction. Where would you put it? Fantasyland? Or Route 66?"

Well, it's a hard question, because I was not thrilled with the film. Cartoon character based attractions should go into Fantasyland. There is a problem with that. That one area does not have infinite space, and they seem to want to put in a majority of attractions that belong there in the various parks.

If it were to be a cartoon attraction somewhere else, it would be a route 66 area. I really think they should stop calling it "Carland" and call it Route 66, theme it to that, and put in the Cars ride. Framed in that manner, it doesn't suck out loud quite as much.

I agree with Jonvn, I would love to see a REAL Route 66, the one DCA SHOULD'VE got and not the travesty right of PP. They are obviously trying to make up for that with Carland (and I'm guessing we are already got a small sneak peak of it in WDSP, albeit, a very small version) and its fine if it turns out to be CARS IMO, but I would REALLY like to see a non-cartoon based area JUST like Frontierland, New Orleans Square, Adventureland and etc. Just focus it on a specific time frame and make it feel like a real sense of place. When you throw cartoons in it, that takes it away a bit.

Like I said, I hope Bean is right and its just the attraction that is getting the characters, but I'm hoping area will have the rawness and realistic quality DCA ORIGINALLY had, but this time don't scimp on the themeing of it ;).

There was a lot of good theming in DCA originally. The Pacific Wharf area, the GRR area, Condor Flats, those were well done. So was the studio section.

The pier was not ornate enough, but it is heavily themed. The entrance area was pretty plain. The farm area was pretty non-descript too.

A Route 66 area, with some REAL ROOM to roam around and explore, could be a lot of fun, particularly if there's a sense of history and peculiarity to it. With created characters (humans, I mean) like a mechanic perpetually working on a car that shakes like it's got lung disease, the drive-thru waitress who's bored and flirty and wants to be whisked away to New York. This would be a great location for a fun, themed restaurant. A different version, perhaps, of the Sci-Fi diner? Rather than plopping it into the Hollywood section... A Drive-In restaurant would go very well in the Route 66 area. It would look terrific at night.

If done properly, the buildings and details here could be an attraction all in themselves. One can hope, anyway.

In a way, it could be the GOOD version of the Dinoland mess at DAK.

the "CARS" franchise is very popular. i do not think that by adding the characters in key locations along the ride would hurt the attraction at all.

As far as i know the cars you ride on will also not be themed to the cars in the movie. There will just be scenes that use the "CARS" characters which are basically reall cars with eyes.
The plans also called for a dual track unlike testrack that has only one track
