| oc_dean Mon 9/10/2007 9:05p | I was hoping this ride was going to be brainstormed for the former Motor Boat Cruise area ... and work a show building around those Monorail support beams.
It would thematically fit into this section of Fantasyland with the neighboring Submarine Voyage (far better than MCL - Muddled California Land) .... with both attractions sharing undersea worlds .. but I guess that's just too smart for them. |

They were just renamed as well as some extra elements added to fit the "CAR" world in the movie.>>
While the icons slated for Carland are based on actual landmarks along Route 66, if they are named as in the movie (Flo's, Sarge's, Luigi's, Etc), and following the designs from the film (Sarge's Quonset hut, Flo's V8 engine part Cafe, Luigi's Tires, etc.), then the "land" WILL essentially be based on the movie and not as a generic car culture environment.
I agree with jonvn that the "land" should just be Route 66 and let any Cars attractions just be located there. Disney has NEVER built an entire "land" based on just one movie. It really restricts anything they put in there, even worse than the limitation that DCA's theme creates for the entire park.

| 2001DLFan Mon 9/10/2007 9:48p | <<bean: the "CARS" franchise is very popular. i do not think that by adding the characters in key locations along the ride would hurt the attraction at all.
As far as i know the cars you ride on will also not be themed to the cars in the movie. There will just be scenes that use the "CARS" characters which are basically reall cars with eyes. The plans also called for a dual track unlike testrack that has only one track>>
The cars they use to populate the "land" will be lie the ones they put in the Disney Studios Paris park: full size props for photo ops (ironically, they have apparently had to put those cars behind barricades because visitors were climbing ALL over them).
As for the Test Track vehicles, they will probably be slightly modified versions of the ones at Epcot. They can't really look like the Cars characters as those cars eyes are in their windshields (which would make visibility rather limited). The other aspect of the Test Track ride system that may be an issue is that they had IMMENSE problems with the GM version (making the ride over a year and a half behind schedule). Having a more complex system with TWO apparently interacting tracks may bring up issues they haven't forseen.

While I agree that it CAN (and in CARS case, would) restrict theme, Disney created a land, with Tokyo Disneysea's MERMAID LAGOON, entirely based on one film.
A BUG'S LAND at DCA is already entirely based on a single movie. It suffers not from a lack of possibilities, but because it's completely focused on entertaining children, to the near exclusion of anyone beyond toddler age.
MICKEY'S TOONTOWN takes its cues in theme and art direction largely from one feature, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, though that film clearly was inclusive of enough subject matter and characters that it's an exception to the idea of one film being too restrictive in theme.
Exceptions do exist. That doesn't mean your point isn't valid. |

Are the plans for a huge sprawling track like epcots? Where it stretches pretty dang far? Or will it be smaller. |

There are so many exciting things that would be fun to discuss but we can't.
If we are lucky the suits will release some information soon. |
