Haven't seen this posted yet. It's the latest from Blue Sky Disney:

http://blueskydisney.blogspot.
com/2007/09/blue-sky-alert-america-anaheim-october.html

New E-ticket to replace innoventions, Little Mermaid to replace Golden Dreams, with the palace structure remaining as the exit to the ride, plus a whole lot of exciting details.

Not sure how I feel about the sunwheel face being replaced with a Mickey Mouse face. It would be cool if it wasn't for the fact that California screaming already has a big Mickey outline. One right next to the other seems like overkill, and would take away from it's specialness. Unless, of course the plan to take out the Mickey from CS and make it over with the villians theme.

What got me the most excited was the talk about something even more special coming to the resort if the DCA makeover proves to be a huge success.

Thoughts....

E-ticket replacing Redwood Creek eh...?

The return of Geyser Mountain, anyone?

Or even... dare I say it? W.R.E.?

Interesting. Basically a rehash of the last two "updates" from Al Lutz, plus a few elements gleaned from some message board posts responding to those Al Lutz updates in the last few months, with just a sprinkling of new information or details on top.

Not much new for anyone who has been to Miceage in the last 90 days, but an interesting read nevertheless.

That site actually contains a few more specifics that miceage.com didn't provide, such as:

>>>>> The Maliboomer is slated for removal, but the concepts to take its place are not finalized yet. <<<<<

Thank goodness!!!

>>>> There is a proposal to remove the Trail area in the park that serves as DCA's Tom Sawyer Island type-area and replace it with an E-Ticket ride. <<<<<

While I'd love to witness a whole fleet of bulldozers having a field day in DCA, the Trail area is one area of the park where I'd rather not see that occur.

>>>>> Another key fixture of the area likely to go is the sun face on the Sun Wheel. Current proposals are to take the face off and replace it with a Mickey Mouse face. <<<<<

I've read that there's a new owner of Coney Island in New York City and he wants to overhaul that park. I'd favor the idea of the Sun Wheel, instead of it being modified, simply be sold to the cheesy place on the East Coast that served as an inspiration for Paradise Pier.

>>>>> The decision hasn't been made yet if Whoopi's Golden Dreams will make it to the front entrance... several inside WDI realize the film is flawed and want it to just go away. <<<<<

This suggests basic plans for redoing DCA still are in a state of flux. That DisCo Imagineers and executives are even arguing over whether the Whoopi attraction should be salvaged or not is not a good sign to me. In other words, if they thought the park was as flawed as it is, they'd toss out Golden Dreams -- and in light of Whoopi Goldberg having relocated her residence back to New York City since 2001 -- in a New-York minute.

>>>>> The majority of these changes are to take place during the first half of the plan. Most will be done by 2011, with a few projects that will be finished up in 2012... <<<<<

This makes me think the process of improvement will be a lot slower -- and perhaps more modest -- than I'd hoped or expected.

Coney Island is an entire large area of NYC; there is no "owner" of Coney Island. The amusement area of CI (a small fraction of the whole) is presently several independently owned parks and dozens of indpendently owned concessions. The man you're referring to owns the land that one of the parks is on. That park includes the Cyclone, which cannot be torn down, as it is a registered landmark (just rode it last weekend too - what an intelligently designed coaster). The Wonder Wheel and carousel (in separate parks) also can not be removed.

It is fairly common knowledge among park buffs (though not, apparently to you) that the Sun Wheel is one of only two of its type in the country with its mix of swinging and stationary cars. The other one: the Wonder Wheel in... Coney Island. So I don't think they'll be taking up that proposal.

Regarding the rumor about the Mickey head replacing the Sun, I think it would be much cooler if they redesigned the Sun so that it would morph into a Mickey when it came time for the show. So Sun by day, and when the lights came down for the show, it would magically transform into Mickey.

I prefer to have the attraction renamed...

"Mickey's Hamster Wheel" ;)

It would be cool if they took out the seats in the swinging cabins and forced you to stand and jockey back and forth to keep from falling over.

I hope they put Golden Dreams in a smaller theater. If they toss out the film any sense of California history in the park goes with it. They might as well toss out the park's dedication plaque. It's a shame they would toss out history in favor of cartoons.

I hope the Mailiboomer stays as well. They would probably replace it with some cartoon kiddie ride and the park needs more thrills.

Question for Bean,

When can we expect Maliboomer to get demo'd? any estimated timeframe?
All times are Pacific Time (US)
