It's ironic, but the disappearing effect is simple and similar to the ride itself. They use a starfield effect to hide the fact that the statue DROPS down.
Next time take a look at Shiriki Utundu before the preshow starts, it stands on a solid table.
Then when lights went off, look down closely: you will see falling stars between the legs of the table when Shiriki is dropped down (and yes, it has its own glowing stars for better disguise.)
A second later lights go on, but the crowd is shocked and doesn't care to notice that the table is topless now. |

Gee... we have known that for a year. Research my previous posts and you will find my mentioning this trick. Only people who would not be true fans of Disney (and those who can't even tell what the passport structure for TDR is if their life depended on it) would be oblivious to that "worst kept" secret....

| Maihama Tue 9/11/2007 11:33p | Actually, for several hundred bucks they could easily install some mirrors to not spoil the effect. But once again TDS imagineers have chosen "good enough" attitude. |

| TDLFAN Tue 9/11/2007 11:37p | You mean... were given "good budgets"? |

What's that supposed to mean? Many Imagineers working on projects for TDS seem to go beyond the call of duty to make the product acceptable. The "good enough" attitudes are only found in the stateside parks. |

| Mr X Tue 9/11/2007 11:45p | Nothing to do with it, it's all the same imagineers.
Why would those same people have a "good enough" attitude in the states but suddenly care about quality just cause they crossed the international dateline?
What's different is who's in charge, and what kind of money they have to work with. |
