Yeah, I read that article last week. Sounds like Paradise Pier was almost built in Disneyland. Good article though

These plans sound quite ambitious and interesting. I'm surprised that this is the first we've heard of plans like this, especially considering how much was planned to happen, so I'm not sure if it's all really true. Interesting how many ideas they did have. I wonder how many plans like that exist these days for all the different parks. It's hard enough to predict what's popular 5 years from now, so I can't imagine the plans would be too specific for 20 years from now. Interesting ideas though.

I guess its true what they say: A Disney idea never truly goes away! This stuff is basically spread out all over the world now, although imagined a little differently for a different time.

And Christ they been trying to solve Paradise Pier down our throats for decades now lol. Didn't happen in Disney's America or DisneySea (Long Beach), so they FINALLY got their life long dream and put it in DCA. So glad it finally worked out with rousing sucess ;D.

It also gives the lie to the idea that PP (which I'm not crazy about) was all the doing of big bad Eisner and Pressler.

But I'm not sure Hill has his facts straight here. He says this plan was 1976, and that from that plan, "instead of going forward with Big City U.S.A. and the Lost Continent themeland -- WED employees opted to refine & adjust these concepts until they became respectively Discovery Bay and Dumbo Circus."

But Discovery Bay and Dumbo Circus had plans revealed by 1976. I remember seeing them in the DL preview center. DB was going to have a major attraction based on the 1974 film "Island at the Top of the World." Had that film performed better, perhaps we would have seen it. It didn't do that well, and I think that took a lot of wind out DB's sails.

It seems more likely to me that Hill has it backwards; rather than DB and Dumbo circus land evolving OUT of this 1976 plan, I think they evolved INTO some of its elements.

"The Disneyland That Never Was" would be a good future book for Jason Surrell. I'd also love to see him do one on Disneyland attractions that are no more.

I's like to see a book comparing the different lands with the same names.
ie Discoveryland and Tomorrowland, Lands unique to each park- Liberty Square, New Orleans Square, etc.
How about "The Making of..." Epcot, Animal Kingdom, DCA, TDS.
The possibilities are not endless but there are many of them.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
