>>The company will likely increase capital spending to beef up its lagging second park in California, Staggs said.
Disney's California Adventure opened in 2001 next door to Disneyland and has been a disappointment to the company, which has steadily added attractions to the park. Disney is not likely to open any new parks in the United States in the foreseeable future, Staggs said.<< |

His comments was made in front of the investment community here in LA today.
>>LOS ANGELES: Bookings at The Walt Disney Co.'s domestic theme parks are not reflecting a broader economic downturn, the company's chief financial officer said Monday.
Travel bookings in the current quarter are up compared with the same period last year, Thomas Staggs told investors gathered at the Merrill Lynch Media and Entertainment conference.<<

Since the trials and tribulations of DCA have been debated endlessly since before and after 2001, it would be very interesting to know the specific profit-and-loss figures for the park. Although I think DCA is very mediocre, I do admit that if its economic performance were much better than commonly assumed, I'd find myself looking at the park in a different light. Of course, if the profitability of DCA were more dismal than assumed, that would affect my assessment of it in the opposite direction.

are not actual quotes by Tom Staggs. They are the wording of the writer for the Herald tribune.
Tom Staggs actual comments are in quotes.
take this phrase for example "Disney's California Adventure opened in 2001 next door to Disneyland and has been a disappointment to the company, which has steadily added attractions to the park. Disney is not likely to open any new parks in the United States in the foreseeable future, Staggs said."
Those arenot Staggs words. They are the words of the writer. Staggs never directly said the park has been struggling and he also never said that the company was not looking into the possibility of another park in the states. |

I will not say that DCA has not been a struggle for the company but not to the point that it is a financial failure. It just has not lived up to what was predicted by previous management.
With that said, the park has been doing better and better as the years pass. DCA has seen a steady growth since 2002. Management does realize that something needed to be done to the park so that it lost its bad reputation with the local market and to help establish its commitment with the peopleof Anaheim |
