"The cut back on Disneyland's maintenence was not a matter of lack of budget."

And how on earth do you know this?>>

What does it matter how he knows it if it's true?

<<If something makes no sense, and is otherwise not backed up by some other evidence, there is no way to believe it is true. And the likelyhood is that it isn't.

There are things that are crazy that happen. Sure. But really when you are talking about certain fundamental things, they have to make sense otherwise the world doesn't work.>>

Are you denying that Pressler made extensive cutbacks in maintenance budgets, closed attractions, reduced quality merchandise in favor of high return generic plush, etc. in order to provide Eisner the increased revenue he demanded? Beyond all that making sense, it happened.

<<Here's an interesting side topic in this discussion: What would DCAs attendance have been like if 9/11 had not happened?
After 9/11 a lot of people around the world did not fly for quite some time or visit theme parks.>>

Impossible to know.

But 9/11 killed tourism (at least in this country for a good two years in most places).

More important, and pertinent, was how did DCA to before 9/11?

And it's also important to realize that DL/DCA was/is in a much better position to weather huge events like 9/11 because it relies much more heavily on a local fanbase.

WDW was hurt vastly more by the horrific events of that day. Indeed, only in the past two years have the international guests begun returning in numbers that are close to what they were in 2000. That's a major reason why WDW's financials have been so robust.

"We, as customers, got screwed and insulted by Disney, who thought we were dumb and would just mindlessly go to anything that has "Disney" in the name regardless of quality."

This is the sort of comment that really makes me wonder. I mean, how in the world could you be insulted (much less screwed) by a theme park? Get a grip.

^^ I can understand the insulted part. Disney officials have stated quite clearly that they felt that they didn't need to go out of their way to theme a lot of the DCA attractions, or to bring anything that couldn't be found in a 6 Flags type of park. I'm kinda insulted that they felt that I, a long time Disney park visitor, would accept this new model and embrace it as fresh and exciting and wonderful, just cuz Disney was in the name.

"I dont know why you continue to defend DCA."

Explain to me how, by asking for what people have said they had, I am defending it.

Explain to me that when I call people for quoting out of context, I'm defending DCA.

Explain to me how when I say the place needs work, that is defending it.

OK, go.

"Generally, when estimating projected attendance, they want to provide high enough numbers to show confidence, low enough to exceed any lowball estimates, and yet conservative enough that they can hype when those numbers are exceeded. Unfortunately, DCA failed to achieve any of those situations."

And who might that be a quote from?

"What would DCAs attendance have been like if 9/11 had not happened? "

Well, it would have obviously been higher. Who knows how much.

"Are you denying that Pressler "

Did I say he didn't make those changes? In fact, I pointed out changes that were made at the same time when it was claimed that nothing was cut back at Disneyland at the time things were cut back in DCA.

"in order to provide Eisner the increased revenue he demanded? Beyond all that making sense, it happened."

Of course it makes sense. Please, think beyond the barest superficialities. Why would he need to generate the revenues Eisner demanded? (actually, you don't generate revenue by cutting costs) Because he wasn't getting the money he normally would, if he had enough paying customers.

So, not enough paying customers, you cut back. This is how businesses work.

"Disney officials have stated quite clearly that they felt that they didn't need to go out of their way to theme a lot of the DCA attractions"

Since they are all themed, or just about all, that's a rather odd thing for you to have claimed them to say.

"More important, and pertinent, was how did DCA to before 9/11? "

No. More pertinent was how the entire industry did before 9/11 and how DCA did in contrast to that.

You need to stop looking at it as if there are only two facts in the world: Barry Braverman's 7 million figure, and the number of people walking in the gate. Because there's a lot more to it.

Even if that were true (and it isn't) why would you be insulted? You are not obligated to like everything that Disney produces.

>Even if that were true (and it isn't)...<

Without quoting chapter and verse, I'm pretty sure I've read enough statements from Disney execs from Braverman and Eisner on down to say that I believe my statement is indeed true. And while I'm not the market for kiddie toys, I very much am the target market for theme parks. When Disney says that this is good enough for me, I'm justified in feeling insulted.

But, the rides are all actually themed, so that does not make a lot of sense.

Why would they go and theme rides when they were thinking there was no need to?
