>> Since it is not quoted material, Skaggs did not say that. The rest is commentary by the article writer <<

The question is not whether his comments were directly quoted or not, but how correctly they were paraphrased. You imply they weren't accurately described, or full of "commentary." I'm asking how do you know that?

Well, I don't know how Jon knows it, but I just listened to the webcast with Thomas Staggs, and his specific words were: "We think there may be an opportunity to invest maybe a little bit more here in California Adventure where I think there's an opportunity to continue that recent growth we've seen at Disneyland. So, we're taking a hard look at that."

That seems much different than the editorialized news articles provided in this thread. The moderator didn't prompt Mr. Staggs' response with any specific questions about California Adventure, nor did she follow up with any editorial comments or questions. That statement was as much as Staggs said about the issue.

Tom Staggs words dont fill me with confidence...it almost seems like they wont be spending 1.2 billion on DCA.

"Those people going to the place are what justifies those bulldozers, you know."

Interesting take on things. I think the people going to the Grand and DtD are what justify it. And their game plan on DCA is about the same as if there were 15 people a day going through the turnstiles.

"I'm asking how do you know that?"

Because it's how the English language works.

"Tom Staggs words dont fill me with confidence"

These people always speak in measured tones, as opposed to the shrieking hysteria found on boards. It's going to be different coming from their mouths, as opposed to what you read from people online. Take this very thread for a perfect example.

"I think the people going to the Grand and DtD are what justify it."

Well, that can't be right, because if it were true that only 15 people a day were going through DCA, it would be taken that such a venture is simply not reasonable, nor worth investing further in. They are investing in the hotel, DTD, and the park. And they are doing so because they believe they can get more the money back out of it. The financials of how DCA is currently doing are used in figuring what future funds will be allocated.

This is why they are going to see how things are going in five years, because they want to see if what they've decided to do actually turns out as expected. If not, then the money will stop. Companies don't generally invest in losing propositions.

Fair enough. If discussions involving the reporter for Associated Press -- and, for that matter, other members of the media -- were limited to the comments you heard via the webcast, and did not involve additional words spoken before or after the recorded segments, then that answers my question. Which opens up a whole new set of questions, such as the one mentioned by Skellington88, that plans for altering DCA may end up being more modest than assumed.

Not if a reporter has access to a person beyond that which is known to the public or other members of the media.

Because it would have been something Skaggs would have been fired for if he actually said things like that.

"Not if a reporter has access to a person beyond that which is known to the public or other members of the media."

Earth is a nice planet. You should come live on it sometime.
