I hope that whatever they put in tomorrowland that it does feature something great and optimistic.

Tomorrowland, no matter what else, is supposed to be about optimism for the future. Not consumerism that you see in Innoventions, but how we will all go forward and live a better life in the coming years.

It would be nice if they recognized that and got back to it.

Ditto...

My "standard" for Tomorrowland always harkens back to my childhood - both before and after 1967.

I wanted to feel that again in '98... but obviously, that didn't happen - at all.

Yeah, the main problem with the 98 makeover is not the color of the paint, or them placing the Rocket Jets in the entry way.

The main problem is that hacked out its soul and threw it away. There was nothing put in that had as its idea what the area has always been about. People think it was bad because they didn't like the color. It goes a little deeper than that.

You're absolutely right. For me, I think it was dreams... It didn't inspire any of my dreams for an exciting future.

And basically... there was no "WOW" factor whatsoever.

"^^I gleamed from it that he means that whatever the new attraction(s) may be, dazzling technology - that could cause the same excitement as Pooh in Tokyo does - will/may be used, AND elicit the same reaction from guests... absolute gotta see, gotta do. :-)"

Exactly

"That last one would be rather hard for me to believe. None of the most popular rides are character based. That would be a big departure."

you do realize that The pooh attraction in Tokyo is one of the most popular if not the most popular attraction in Tokyo resort.

Yes that little character's attraction is a must do at the resort with lines exceeding any other attraction in the resort

The Pooh attraction in Tokyo is in Tokyo, and they have a different culture than in this country.

None of these types of rides are anywhere near as popular here. I don't think the Tokyo Pooh ride would have been that popular here in the DLR location. I've not been on it, but have seen videos of it.

The most popular cartoon character based ride in this country is likely Splash Mountain. And that is actually in theme with its surroundings, even being a cartoon based thing.

We'll see with this expensive Little Mermaid deal that you got going in DCA. I'm am sure it will be a very nice attraction, and every bit as popular as all the other character based rides in this country, which is to say, not very.

People just don't like them that much. Peter Pan and Roger Rabbit are really the only ones that ever seem the least bit busy when I visit. And it's not because of quality. Monsters Inc and Pinocchio are both very high quality rides of this type. They get very little relative use.

What it comes down to is that these rides simply aren't that popular. They have always been considered the kiddie rides, and easily skipped. The content is not as appealing and people don't mind avoiding them.

Be that as it may, I hope whatever ride that gets built in TL is actually something that belongs in it. Not some luddism filled thing that instills a fear of technology, and anxiety about the future.

TL in Disneyland is about how great our future is going to be, it is supposed to be filled with optimism and hope. If you put yet another thing in there that does not speak to this, it may be an entertaining enough attraction, but it does not become the touchstone to the public like the area used to be, and it will not reverberate with the crowds.

A lot of people went into careers in the sciences because of Tomorrowland. They were INSPIRED by the things they saw there. This entire nation was turned on to space travel by Walt Disney and his weekly show.

Tomorrowland is supposed to be inspiring, optimistic, and progressive. It's not supposed to be about fear of technology, calling scientists nerds, or telling people to go buy a TV.

It was once the very best part of the park because it spoke to people about their own personal future, and it was a glorious one, where we traveled to space, while at the same time we progressed at home with technology, while at the same time explored the planet and other sciences.

And this is what was there for decades.

So I'm curious as to what is going to go in there now. I hope that whatever it is fits more in line with the ideals I think that Walt Disney laid down for the area, and what served the park, the public, and this nation so well for so many years.

I can not tell you the crushing disappointment this area has become. And it is not because the paint is bad or they put a fountain in a bad spot, but because its spirit has been broken.

Go back to what it should be. Go back to inspiring and teaching and having a positive influence.

That would be the best thing you could do.
