I think a new Tomorrowland could be accomplished if WDI really put the budget and thought into a complete new telling of the land. I could see many of the buildings facades completely reworked with sprawling glass panels in interesting shapes and vortexes. I think with Innoventions nearing its final years, a new "House of the Future" could be built. Using a similar layout to the original, the new HOTF could be "green", and similar to design and construction to the ultra-mod modular homes that have been in production for a couple of years now. Something similar to this: http://3quarksdaily.blogs.com/
3quarksdaily/images/0606_7_1.jpg
. Microsoft could be a great sponser of this attraction, and made large enough, could entertain many guests a day. I am way too young to have ever been able to see the original HOTF, but Tomorrowland needs a unique walk through attraction. I could see a new "weenie" of this land being a glass spire placed near the center of the land. Reconstruct the central portion of the People mover plateform and add a new version of Rocket Jets where the original was (but on a new and redesigned plateform). Replace HISTA, Starcade and RRPP with new attractions (none cartoon themed). Perhaps the area of RRPP and the Innoventions building could house another indoor rollercoaster, themed to the planet of Mars or something. Lots of things to make it different than Space Mountain. Perhaps it could be hidden in a show building, with a futuristic NASA like facade and launching gantry area for its facade. Put a beautiful fountain in the entry, and you got something going. Also, add a ton of trees to the area. Make tomorrow a "greener" day.

don't know who themeparklover is.

I am just someone that is involved in some of these projects that sometimes feel Disney should nto be so secretive about them.

At the same time I understand why since everything that has been done lately is criticized before it even breaks ground.

Its almost as if some people forgot what a theme park is all about.

Oh and I have no problem saying that i also do not like the idea of having so many character based attractions.

The problem I have with some comments is when people say things without knowing the whole picture of why things are done a certain way.

Some of the worst comments are when people think they know how money is being spent or wasted.

Another problem I have is when people criticize a group within the company without knowing if it is them that are making the final decisions when in fact they are trying to make the best possible decisions that will help keep the parks fresh and know that things will be more easily acceoted by the peole that hold the wallet.

So shmitty, I also do not like the amount of character based additions lately but i know for a fact that it is just a temporary period for park growth and that there are several non character or movie based additions being thrown around for future additions. Its a matter of balance, if the resorts grow then it will eventually be easier to expand bigger more ambitous projects.

So right now the focus is to make sure that was is added is of higher quality then what was previously added a few years back and that guests will enjoy them.

Attractions like Monsters Inc laugh factory and stitch should not happen again.

"If they really were under the budget gun, then you don't dig a tunnel to the rocket rods, you use the already existing and working speedramps. You don't trash the circle vision theater, you just leave what was in there alone. You don't put up bad murals, and stupid coke machines. You don't make a building rotate when there is no purpose for it."

what in the world are you talking about.

no one built a tunnel, the tunnel was there.
<<<<

Bean ... I could be wrong here ...
but aren't you talking about the long hallway that extended from the old Circle-Vision offices ... straight to Coca-Cola Terrace's storage/elevator stage entrance ... straight into the carousel theater?

I don't seem to recall throughout TL67's history to have a "hidden" tunnel going from Circle Vision's exit .. into the center pylon that supported the Rocket Jets and Peoplemover loading station.

The only underground sections I've known of .. have been Flight to Moon's/Mission to Mars' 3/4 basement .... Carousel of Progress/America Sings 1/2 basement ... and the tunnel that cut from the Circle-Vision offices to the entrance into CoP's/Skyway's basement sections.

Regarding Screamscape's idea of Speeder Bikes in the Star Wars films .......
OH HEAVEN'S .... I HOPE NOT!

I like a little Star Wars infusion into Tomorrowland ...... but not too much!!

The speeder bike idea would obviously be a THRILL ride!!

So .. let me see if I'm getting this right....

Buzz - cartoon
Nemo - cartoon
Star Tours - science fiction
Star Wars "speeder bikes" - science fiction

Anymore fictionalized fantasy worlds to further get away from any sort of tangeable "Tomorrowland"?

Or ... why even call it Tomorrowland anymore?

Just throw the whole towel in ......
and admit WDI is creatively bankrupt.

bring it on!

In light of what you just wrote bean .. I sincerely hope - Those who are in charge at Disney now .... understand the key principles that made Disneyland successful in the first place ..... Far before the company thought going nuclear on cartoon/sci-fi based attractions was appropriate.

My feeling also about that speeder bike idea that just leaves an awful taste in my mouth ... is the fact that being a faster attraction .. means it won't be for the whole family.

Lets discuss one unique feature about the Peoplemover track:

Because it covers just about the entire perimeter of Tomorrowland .... that whatever they decide to put up there ... sets the tone for the entire land.

Do you want to set a tone with a fast/thrill ride? That is only good for SOME guests?

Or do you want to set a tone that makes it an "All Encompassing FAMILY" attraction ..... that ALL people can ride.

That is the PRIMARY "Disneyland" experience.

So therefore ...... the tone for Tomorrowland should be set with something that reminds people they are in TOMORROWLAND.

Not sci-fi Star Wars land ........
Not cartoon land (poor HKDL TL!!)...
Not movieland .........

but a land that can still be a glance into the world's future.

I know many people think peoplemovers are not futuristic ...... But as long are you still in your cars .. and can't take a peoplemover to work, or the grocery store ....... it's a concept STILL routed into the future.

I just look at my native OC ... 34 cities ...... vast ........ and it HORRIFIES me to say not ONE SINGLE RAIL system to bring OC into the 21st Century.

Pitiful!

Another sleek ... futuristic peoplemover type experience will be such a tremendous INSPIRATION .. Not just to OC .. but anywhere else on the planet that is largely behind the times.

The problem right now is that Disney was hardpressed by wallstreet and investors to increase the companies stock and profits.

right now the company has some very profitable properties that could actually accomplish that.

Look at "CARS" alone, its interesting to see that the movie did fairly well for Disney but its merchandise has been maintaining a high profit margin eventhough it has not been exploited to any degree that movies like stitch were.

WIth stitch, the expoitation of that character was rushed and not properly planned. Eventhough the character remains a top seller in merhcandise it did not maintain its poularity well.

Right now some of Disney/Pixar characters have reached a peak for demand and its the apropriate time to take advantage of that. These movies will even tually lead to better profit margins and bigger additions to all the resorts.

There was a time during the last decade that many of Disney's movies were ignored by the theme park dvision. Simple window displays were the best they would do to help cross promote them. Gone were the almost yearly parades that were developed for new movies. The interaction play areas.

Believe it or not the lack of interest from the theme park division to cross promote the movies actually affected the bottom line of their overall achievement.

The theme park division is finally realizing that by cross promoting movies with simple things like preparades or key attractions it extends the shelve life of the movie in thaters and future dvd and merchandise sales.

At the same time Burbankd and especially WDI realize the importance of key attractions that are specific to the parks with no cross promotion at all. This is when attractions like Everest and a few key ideas being thrown around come in.

These attractions help increase theme park attendance and also keep the parks fresh. At the same time these attractions do little to maintain other key divisions within the company.

Luckily for the company if they do things right then those attractions could eventually create franchises like the Pirates movies of course they could also create flops like the Haunted Mansion and country bears movies.

Actually, from what I understand, Speeder Bikes were actually the first concept for what was going to replace the People Mover. But, a combination of technological issues and Disneyland's operational requirements (increased guest capacity) resulted in the bikes morphing into the Rocket Rods. I doubt they could ever get back to a Speeder Bike type ride and get it to function successfully.

I agree with much of what you say Bean. The company always has to look for ways to keep many properties alive. And those profits coming in.

But at what cost to SPECIFIC themed lands where it's completely out of place?

Just about every film property that is being exploited in the various Disney parks are well rooted into FANTASY worlds. May it be a sci-fi world "in a galaxy far, far away" ......... or a cartoon world where you "just keep on swimming, keep on swimming, swimming, swimming"

Meanwhile ..........
Discovery Channel has been showing some pretty serious real stuff lately...... Like large Jupiter like planets in solar systems several hundred light years from Earth. A planet with water and rock that is the closest Earth like planet ... recently discovered. With more incredible sights to being discovered all the time by the Hubble telescope.

Why isn't Disney taking a look at our real (AND FAR MORE FACINATING) universe out there ......... and getting back on track with mankind eventually reaching these worlds and exploring them?

The former NASA exhibit in Circle-Vision's exit area BARELY ... I mean .. b-a-r-e-l-y scratched the surface of many facinating discoveries happening now!!

I see Disney continuing delivering these cute little fantasy worlds for the little kid on all of us ..........

But TOMORROWLAND was always that ONE land that was devoted to UNLOCK AND OPEN OUR MATURE MINDS.

Tomorrowland has had an incredible and PROFOUND affect on me.

I was fortunate to grow up with the "World on the Move" Tomorrowland in it's heyday.

I see no reason Tomorrowland can't (again) INSPIRE the minds and souls of new generations waiting to have their imaginations blown out of the sky.
Metaphorically speaking, of course ;)!
