Way back when, before Splash Mountain ruined the site lines of the area, the west side of the park truly looked like you were out in the frontier. Here's a picture of Fowler's Harbor before Splash Mountain was built. You'd never know you were in the middle of a big city:

Wow, and I thought the area was lush today. Great pic Jon.

Thanks. See how realistic that setting is? One of the reasons I dislike splash mountain is because it ruined this sense of place that used to be on the west side of the park. Splash mountain makes it look like a theme park now, instead of an actual western frontier environment.

I love Splash Mountain but I see your point. Let's hope that the rest of the river area remains as natural and immersive as possible.

Before the Festival of Fools, Big Thunder Ranch, especially if you sort of wandered out beyond the animal areas towards the big barn, also gave an amazing sense of being anywhere but in the middle of a huge megalopolis.

I still love the Hungry Bear for that reason - because you're facing away from Splash and into the most "wilderness-y" part of the river, you can still get that feeling of being away from it all, especially if you're there on an uncrowded day and you can just sit over the river, feed the ducks, and watch the occasional watercraft go by.

<<They are not parked there if there is only one parade. They go back to the parade storage area and they use that service road to get them there. OR they used to, anyway.>>

No one re-clarified after the first clarification, so I now clarify: one-show parade days see the floats parked behind Main Street and returned to storage after hours. This has been the case with all parades since at least 1994, when I began working at the park (Electrical Parade and Aladdin's Royal Caravan back then).

<<What is not good about that ride is how they fouled it up with making the cars be alive and living in some sort of car world. That was a dumb idea, but it's easy to ignore.>>

I agree.

As so many have pointed out, there is virtually no useable land behind any part of Tomorrowland, but there is tons of available land. Shops and restaurants must always take a back seat to Attraction development, if you ask me, unless they are integrated a la Blue Bayou. Therefore, to redevelop Tomorrowland:

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING could be levelled without significant losses to Tomorrowland: Star Trader, Starcade, Imagination Institute, Space queue/Space Place remnants, RRPP, Cosmic Bidet remnant, Innoventions, Tomorrowland Terrace, Autopia Winner's Circle, bathrooms/Skyway remanat/Rocket Rods service area could be completely leveled. If no PeopleMover replacement is to be, PeopleMover/Rocket Jets/Tomorrow Landing tower also.

Taken together, this is an almost unimaginable amount of developable real estate. With careful, multi-level planning, Disney could easily replace the two pathetic Attractions sacrificed with enormous capacity, engaging Attractions, and could redevelop very, very adequate eateries and shopping. All of this without disturbing (for better or worse) Star Tours, Space, Buzz, Autopia, Subs, Monorail, or the Railroad. Where else can you tear out so much and still leave so much behind?

I say: "Let's start demolition!"

"Cosmic Bidet remnant" *LOL*

And since my laughter has subsided, I'll just add that I agree completely with monorailblue. :-)

I'd love to hear a Jon & Doug podcast. Or perhaps a Celebrity Death Match.

Back to the topic...

Tomorrowland does have a lot of space that isn't being used well. There could be some awesome new projects, given the right boundaries.

i too can confirm that they keep the floats parked behind main street and then route them down the parade route after closing.
