My wife and I were at the Ko Olina resort area last March. It is absolutely STUNNING! I am thrilled Disney plans to build a mixed use resort there. Certainly a reason to return.

I really can't say I'm particularly excited about this. I know they just announced it, but there isn't really anything out there that says how it will be different (and worth the extra price) in the typical Disney fashion. I'm sure it will be great and do well, but I just have to ask why?

Now we're talking. I bought a Marriott Vacation Club unit in Paris earlier this year after researching vacation ownership over the last 8 years. On a number of occassions I have nearly broken down and bought DVC, but I didn't want to vacation in the swamplands of florida too often. Marriott offered us 42 properties around the globe (including Ko Olina) plus access to all Marriott Hotels or exchanged through Interval International. We love it.

Now that DVC has started expanding again in California and Hawaii, we may well expand our portfolio and buy some DVC points too. For now though, I am on a watching brief.

I setup a site called www.disneykoolina.com to advertise our condo that we purchased last year.

I hope that fact that Disney will be our next door neighbor will make our property values go up! We purchased two years ago and it will be ready April 1, 2008.

We may end up purchasing DVC points also so that we will be able to enjoy the giant pool structure that will be installed.

The resort layout is as follows, think of a square piece of land. One side of the square is the beach, the other three sides all have tall vertical hotel structures in a horseshoe shape around the perimiter. Inside of the horseshoe will be a giant pool structure and everything will look out over it towards the beach. It's going to be pretty cool.
