TDLFAN is not happy. I stopped by TDL the other day, Monday, and the park was close to capacity, even in the rain...as it was a crappy day weather wise..
But I have to give thumbs down to TDL in two areas... First up, the nice flat garden that sits in the middle of the ticket booths outside the park and in front of the TDR Line station is being eliminated and replaced by plain black asphalt.
Some of you know that about a year ago, the planters in that same area were reduced in size and replaced by nothing but more asphalt, making the front entrance into TDL as sterile as your average operating room in a hospital. Now, the nice garden that has been there since 83 is going as well.. This is a bad move on the current management at TDL, and it's regrettable. Now, more than ever I can say that DLP (with all of it's maintenance problems) and HKDL (with it's attendance problems) have the nicest walkways leading into the park.. mind you, not that TDL was that great in the first place, but now it's just about the worst one of all the 5 DL parks.

Secondly, I object about the poor conditions this park is now being allowed to fall into... most visibly in the Tomorrowland entrance area. The two towers, welcoming guests into Tomorrowland are in deep disrepair and in major need for refurbishment. The paint is peeling off and the towers look very dirty. Plus the water pond below is not being cleaned up at the bottom, allowing for sediment to build up. This is an extremely poor show for TDL, and one that OLC should be horribly ashamed for. Makes me wonder if they are following the lead of some American manager there and cutting corners in hopes of reducing cost and quality "by degrees" like Kevin Yee likes to call it.

Needless to say... TDLFAN is terribly upset and will complain about it until improvements come.

Wow.

Well, disrepair is certainly not a good thing! But as far as the entranceway, I wonder if it's simply a danger/crowding issue (considering the amount of guests that line up daily, I'd think they need lots of space?).

Though I agree, it looks horrible. In fact, it is THE worst of the five by far, with California coming in second to last...I almost died when I saw the pics from Paris. THAT is how a park entrance should look! Orlando, of course, is lovely with all the hotels in view and the ferry and monorail of course (either second place or tied for first), and even crappy Hong Kong actually does have a pretty little entrance zone as well, taking it to third place.

Sorry TDLFAN, but I can't justify Hong Kong in 2nd place...no way. It's very pretty with the fountain and all, but doesn't hold a candle to Orlando when you've got the lake and pretty watercraft, the monorail gliding by, and the lovely views of the hotels all within eyeshot of the main entrance!

I think I'll start a new topic on this. :)

I would actually place the Magic Kingdom's location above Disneyland Paris, as pretty as it is. The Seven Seas Lagoon in the foreground blows the nice fountains and bricked walkways of Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland in my opinion.

This is sad news.

I have to admit, without a train, with that horrible shed roof and the faux tiny Main Street(yeah, I know, I know), the entrance to TDL is by far the most lacking of the three MK style parks I have been to(the others being DL and WDW's MK). My biggest gripe with the park is the lagoon-sized hub area that probably could have been put to better effect in making World Bazaar more of a Main Street and less of a straight street leading into the park proper.

I didn't linger long in ANY of the park's Main Street's.......TDL's was something I just bolted through to get my Pooh fastpass. To add insult to injury, upon leaving the park one night and trying to buy souvenirs in WB, I was actually barred from entering a shop because they said they were closing.

Can you imagine that happening in a Disney park in the land of the free(credit card)and home of the in-debt?

WDC could learn a thing or two from OLC's early closings... mainly to stop being cheap and learn to take care of their own cast, which is why OLC closes early. In the american workforce, most companies could not care less about their employees well being, and the consumer won't allow for that to change for the better either.

Well.. I was talking about the immediate area leading to the turnstyles. I will not argue that the MK benefits greatly from the expansive Seven Seas Lagoon... which at this point in time should be renamed the "Enjoy it now before the drop in quality begins after entering the park" Lagoon.

"Can you imagine that happening in a Disney park in the land of the free(credit card)and home of the in-debt?"

It happened to me last fall in DL when we had stayed until closing (we were in line for an attraction for about 10 minutes after the official closing). We went over to Main Street and got some ice cream, and then tried to get into the Emporium, only for them to tell us that it was closed. And this was about 35 minutes after the park closed. They had extended the park hours by an extra hour, but that still doesn't excuse it. The attraction CM's had to stay a whole hour longer, so why would the Main Street ones not have to as well? So, you're not the only one whose money they don't want. : )

<<To add insult to injury, upon leaving the park one night and trying to buy souvenirs in WB, I was actually barred from entering a shop because they said they were closing.>>

Unfortunately, with the vast majority of TDR CM's being dependent on public transportation that shuts down at about 1:00AM every night, they can't allow the "lingering" close that our parks have.

Trust me when I tell you this...OLC and Japanese companies treat their hourly employees FAR WORSE than the WDC, I can assure you.

Not just by working them to death (there is a reason why there's a word in Japanese for "death from overwork"!), but mental stress and other horrible treatments. I've seen many regular cast members backstage IN TEARS after being berrated by their tyranical managers (who are, in turn, treated like crap by upper management).

The early closing is nothing but simple logistics, not because they "care"...you simply couldn't have hundreds of employees loitering around Maihama station every night because they missed their train and couldn't afford a taxi.
