"Cars is set in a small town of from Route 66, which also runs through California."

But they repeatedly said that they weren't in California. I don't think we even know for sure that it's Route 66 (although it is very heavily implied I don't think they ever actually say it or have signs saying it), but we do know that they aren't in California. Lightning McQueen repeatedly tells us how he needs to get to California for the big race, and nobody seems to correct him saying that they are currently in CA. So, ironically, we don't know the exact location of Radiator Springs, but we do know that it is definately NOT in California. Perfect theme for a land in a park about the state, huh?

Well, it could be that the Cars attraction has it's "grand finale" race in California, is that better? I know these themes are tenuous at best, but I think Disney has abandoned really trying to tell specific California stories anymore...especially since everything is character driven.

---a solid deduction by you

I would say the animators/story writers set Cars in either New Mexico, Utah or Arizona or an almalgam the three.

I will propose that by the time the Carsland rides open, DCA will not even be called that anyway.

I'm surprised they didn't change the name a few years ago.

I would imagine that they would want to wait until the changes are mostly complete before rebranding the park. They'll probably get only one chance with the public.

I have always thought Walt Disney's California would be a good name for the park....

Do you think Cars land is going to open up when the second movie gets released, as kind of a cross promotion between the Parks and Studios. I know Lassaster was wanting to do this when he took on the advisor role at WDI.

It appears like the two will open around the same time, but it's more of a happy coincedence than any thing else. By the time they are able to script out and create a movie, it's about the same length of time needed to develop and build a major park addition.

Wow, there's going to be a sequel to Cars??? The only Pixar film I never bothered watching again after the first time?? Blah...

Can't wait for the ride though :).

Well if the execs in Anaheim are smart, there will take advantage of this happy coincedence.
