I have two nearly mint copies of this issue, but for those who haven't seen it, I stumbled onto it online:

I remember by grade school had that issue in the library. To this day I can remember just about everything about it, as I pored over it many, many times.

Often second hand stores have a pile of old N G mags. Keep an eye out and you can have your own for 10 cents (or about $25 to $50 on eBay)

Yes, for many of us who lived away from Disneyland, and before the internet, the August, 1963 NatGeo was the only way to vicariously visit the happiest place on earth.

Here's my favorite image in the entire article:

Thanks for the links! Interesting to note how different the furnishings (including the phone) are very different in the two pictures.

My little brother had the Donald Duck hat the little girl is wearing on Dumbo. This bill squeaked. *L* :-)

In our living room when I was little, we had shelves of National Geographic magazines. I knew exactly where to go for this copy - I LOVED looking at it. Just like you said, DlandDug - it was the only way to get a Disney "fix" (of course it wasn't called that back then!- but that's what it was!)other than waiting each week to see Walt on The Wonderful World of Color. Many years later, I managed to acquire 2 copies. No idea what happened to the family archives! Probably they were discarded during a move. But I treasure these and other magazines with Disney articles from the 50's or 60's. The images are ingrained in my brain!
