This morning (Nov. 10) in NYC, a strike by the Broadway stagehands' union has shut down most Broadway shows for the time being. Sadly, this includes "The Little Mermaid" and "The Lion King".

"Mary Poppins", covered by another contract, is still open.

Broadwayworld.com has information on obtaining refunds for the affected shows.

This is truly distressing news for "Mermaid", which only just opened and stands, like many other shows, to lose millions over the lucrative holiday theatre season if the strike is not resolved promptly. Cross your fingers that it is.

(Of course, this could be a bonanza for "Poppins", the only remaining big-league family show in town besides Cirque du Soleil's "Wintuk" and the annual Radio City Music Hall Christmas show, both unaffected.)

I feel sorry for all the families who will have to reschedule shows. My heart goes out. As if there isn't enough bad news in the world already...

All these show biz strikes are seriously cutting into our entertainment, aren't they?
