| cheesybaby Fri 2/1/2008 9:21a | It was a great movie, and I enjoyed it, but it was a minor disappointment based upon the studio's expectations. Just look at the posts here based upon its opening:
Posts 1-10: people predict possible $180 to even $200 million domestic. Posts 11-20: $180 million-ish Posts 21-30: $150-160 million Reality: $125 million
I liked the movie. It did well. But it finished a little below studio expectations. A franchise was talked about by the studio. Now? I'd be surprised. |

| Witches of Morva Fri 2/1/2008 9:57a | ORDDU: My sisters know of four different families, here in Morva, who wanted to see ENCHANTED in the theatres when it first came out. Unfortunately they never had the time to get around to it. Now they're saying they'll be waiting until the DVD comes out and see it that way.
ORGOCH: 'Course we don't know how in the @#$% anybody in Morva's ever gonna' watch a DVD. There ain't no DVD's in sight an' electricity still ain't been invented here yet!!! |

| Sport Goofy Fri 2/1/2008 12:12p | The extra week between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year reall hurt Enchanted. It just couldn't sustain itself on the number of screens as new films came into the marketplace between the two holidays. All the big money at Christmas is made after school lets out for the holiday and Enchanted was already shedding screens by that point in time. One week would have made an incredible difference in total box office for this film. |

In the end, I don't expect Enchanted to have much staying power at all. I would be shocked to see Giselle in the parks in about 5 years. However, a huge success on DVD could change that and the movie certainly has the potential. |

| davewasbaloo Mon 2/4/2008 6:49a | I agree. Compared to Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Tron, Enchanted was not quite in their league. And yet those two titles are very obscure for kids born after their releases. I sense Enchanted will be to. It is in the same league as Princess Diaries and Pretty Woman in my books. Good movies, that turned a few heads, but not earth shattering block busters. But it has the potential to be a home market sleeper and likely a TV holiday favorite. |

What A person posted here is no indication of the "studio's expectations." What was actually said was this: >>With an opening like that, a total gross of $180+ million plus should be in the cards.<<
And what do you know? The actual TOTAL gross stands at just over $300 million.
>>I think what many of the posters here are getting at is that Enchanted could have/should have been a big hit like Pirates or National Treasure, and instead ended up a small success like Princess Diaries.<<
Princess Diaries TOTAL was $165 million. Diaries 2 total was $135 million. Enchanted total is just over $300 million. In other words, it made more than BOTH Princess Diaries combined.
But Enchanted is still a disappointment.
Uh huh. |
