Great topic! Thank you!

<<The magic wishing well is a direct reference to Snow White.>>

And to Sleeping Beauty's spinning wheel. The Old Hag begins to lead Giselle towards the well and Giselle doesn't want to go, but then she looks at the waterfall and it sparkles irresistibly and she falls under its spell and is inexplicably drawn to it - just like Sleeping Beauty and the spinning wheel.

<<Among the shadow montages at the end which references just about everything from a Disney fairytale, there was a sword in an anvil just like in "Sword in the Stone",***>>

I saw Narissa as a young King Arthur pulling the sword from the stone when she pulled the sword from the floor.

Oh! And I also LOVED the nod to Julie Andrew's in Sound of Music when Giselle comes over the hill in the park singing with her arms open!

Man, I love this movie. :)

Oops. On the re-read I notice that the King Arthur reference was already mentioned. Sorry to be redundant.

>> "When the two of them are singing in Central Park, they are in a boat with Robert rowing just like the "kiss the girl" scene in Little Mermaid." <<

The director actually talked about this scene in a recent L.A. Times article and mentioned that it wasn't actually an intentional homage like most of the other things that have been mentioned. He kind of chalked it up to how ingrained the Disney animated films were for him (and the others involved in the production) that they ended up staging this scene in that way without even really thinking about the similar one from "Little Mermaid".

>> "Oh! And I also LOVED the nod to Julie Andrew's in Sound of Music when Giselle comes over the hill in the park singing with her arms open!" <<

Of course, there is also a nearly identical shot in "Beauty and the Beast", which was probably the more direct reference in that scene.

Doggone. I have really got to pay more attention. Did I really type "Julie Andrew's"? Oops.

And thanks for settin' me straight, JeffG. It has been too long since I've watched "Beauty and the Beast", and I had forgotten that.

Nobody mentioned this yet, I think:

After the Fun & Fancy Free scene on TV, the channel changes and you hear Mickey. I couldn't make out what cartoon it was because I wanted to hear the dialogue.

I found this to be a good movie, just not up to my expectations, which were very high.

Snot, doo-doo, dogs lifting their legs--these things just aren't funny IMO. Drool is so-so, burps I can live with, the rest just falls flat every time with me.

But the real problem: the opening animated sequence was so phenomenal, anything after it was doomed to disappoint.

I know the animation, characters and actions were cranked up a notch farther than they would have been in a true animated Disney film, but they were wonderfully magical. When Giselle got to New York, I felt like someone had changed the channel on me.

That said, I think I've spent enough time on the negatives. I'd like to talk about the many, many excellent points in the movie, but my neice wants to use the computer for awhile. So that will wait for another time.

One that I can't believe no one got yet, Nancy, the future step mom, (until she's not!) her last name is Tremain, the last name of the evil step mother in Cinderella.

Also the Patrick Dempsey character's last name is Philip, which I consider to be really close to Prince Philip.

ORWEN: And when Narissa was confronted in the elevator by Prince Edward, did the rest of you ducklings notice the way she pulled her cape aside to reveal Giselle asleep on the floor--just like Maleficent once did with her own cape to reveal Aurora on the floor???
