Wow, those clips really ARE terrible...tres themeparkish.

And kinda creepy.

A little too much skin, and a little too little stuff that actually looks like undersea creatures.

And the, suddenly, Jean Val Jean takes the stage to save the day?

lol. Seriously, that whole thing TOTALLY reminded me of a Les Mis ripoff. Worst one since SouthPark, in fact!

Wow.

The definitely should've strung Ariel up in the rafters like they do at DisneySea, THAT costume looks like something out of a high school musical!

In fact, watching that all I could think was the DisneySea show is actually better (I don't presume that it is, I'm only reacting to the clips).

Heck, the DisneySea Sebastian costume would've been much nicer than that weird thing imo.

So, what's this about Ursula..they kill her or something?

I think Broadway needs an enigma. The Lion King was a long time ago, and some of these concepts are seeming awfully stretched now imo (not just minimalist Disney either...the whole weird Seusical, Grinchical, Anamatonical, Sitcomical vibe is really weird to me (and heck, I didn't even see a show this time...just looking around times square I could feel that vibe).

"THAT costume" being the broadway one, I mean.

I'm rather fond of the DisneySea version of Ariel, despite the funky doo.

Having watched the clips, it does look theme park/cruise ship and very camp. No thanks.

You know, I think "cruise ship" fits really well...I didn't feel right calling it "theme park" really, as it seems a bit more elaborate..just a bit.

I think I'd rather go see this. :p

(and yes, that DOES appear to be pretty much exactly the score from the Mermaid Lagoon Theater, I was searching for a clip for comparison but no such luck)

Now I feel like I am sipping a cocktail in the lounge at DLH Paris. This is the sort of stuff the bar pianist plays.

Interestingly, this clip caught my eye a lot more, as a brief intro, than anything on that broadway website!

<< Hunchback of Notre Dame is definitely back on with a new librettist and director. That one I can't wait for. Should be ready for '09.>>

Oh thank God !! I can';t wait. This show would be perfect for Broadway. It has adult "feel" at least.

All times are Pacific Time (US)
